Phineas & Ferb: It's About Time

Reviewed: 01/26/2014

Time For What? Another Phineas Day That's What!

It's about time to finish the "Fast & Phineas" DVD set and leave season one for now. This episode is 22 minutes long and is episode #21 (#7) on the animation paper. So today's episode features Phineas & Ferb fixing a time machine and unintentionally taking Candace with them back into time. Meanwhile; Doofensmirtz has made a new evildoer called Perry The Panda which might just defeat Perry for good this time. So let's rant on shall we...?!

It's About Time is written by Dan Povenmire, John Barry, Kent Osborne, Mike Roth and Aliki Theofilopoulos. Story editing for both episode are done by Martin Olson. Animation is done by Wang Films.

We begin this one outside the Museum of Natural History which has the pond fountain in the foreground and a lot of solar window roofs and red flags. We head inside in front of the Triceratops booth with Phineas, Ferb, Lawerence, Candace and Linda as Lawerence is talking about fossils that lived here in Danville millions of years ago. Come on Candace; you want to crack the obvious joke here; don't ya? Linda claims that she is happy that they don't exist today; which Candace wishes she wasn't here today. Candace hates her life; what a shock? No wonder people hate teenagers more than adults these days. Lawerence sees a slab of rock with a T-Rex footprint on it. Lawerence claims that this happened within 30 yards of this very spot. Then we see a pedestal containing the skeleton of a dog which still has his green collar on which reads Bucky on the dog tag. Lawerence states that this was dug up near the neighbourhood which Phineas asks if this is their dead dog Bucky who got sick and lived on Kindly Old Man Simmons' farm. Lawerence shrugs it off and shows off a skeleton human wearing green overalls with a pitchfork and straw in it's mouth. HAHA! Lawerence calls him Old Man Simmons and then instantly walks away asking for milkshakes. HAHA! Phineas looks as bewildered as I do sometimes. So Ferb point to the top of a door which reads "Gadgets Through The Ages" which the crack Disney Captions team calls "Gadgets Thru The Ages" even though it is clearly written in full on screen. I realize Phineas sezs the name of the room; but COME ON! So Phineas, Ferb and Perry walk in and see a bunch of kids as a shorter Newton Gimmick wearing a blue shirt, black shorts and a red bowtie is showing some kind of carriage sleigh made of bronze; which has four or five lightbulbs (one of them purple shaded), a lever and a grey handlebar in the front. Apparently; this is a time machine made in the 1800's by some goofball named Xavier Onassis. The poor doctor tries some time travel humor; but the kids are not amused and we move on as Phineas, Ferb and Perry stop by the thing and Phineas proclaims that this is what they'll do today while Ferb shows a screwdriver.

Why yes; they are going to fix that time machine, why do you ask? So Phineas asks where Perry is and we see Perry going to a photo booth in a museum of natural history! The funny thing is; if you talk to some of the commenters of Respectful Insolace; it suddenly makes a lot more sense than the writers had intended. Ponder that one for a moment. So he goes inside putting his hat on while taking about a half dozen pictures with most of them completely off-shot as seen in the depenser. Perry slides down the tube slide and plops into the chair of OWCA headquarter. We see Major Monogram on screen and he's stroking his chin. Perry stares and we get the "doing nothing of note and see if the kids laugh at it" spot; which is actually worth it, because this actually goes somewhere. Perry waves his arms and then we see Karl on the screen as shown in the shopping cart in Unfair Science Fair Redux as he waves hello. Karl is Monogram's intern as he tells us that Monogram is frozen solid and has been all day. Karl also makes him drop onto the ground; but he picks him back up while chuckling about saying "ouch". Anyhow; Karl basically tells Perry that it must be the work of Doctor Doofensmirtz. Now this actually makes sense because this is the same Major Monogram who was face to face with Doofensmirtz in the shopping mart in Unfair Science Fair Redux...unless...Anyhoo (as Karl would say here); Perry must stop Doofen and gives good luck to Agent P. So we return with Linda, Lawerence and Candace as Linda is looking at a fossil of the Glykiolis species from the Jurassic era which is under glass. Linda calls this exciting as Candace groans and storms off. She goes on a rant about pain and suffering while Phineas & Ferb are fixing whatever. And speaking of Phineas & Ferb; we see Phineas & Ferb fixing the time machine of doom as Ferb is using a blow torch with the mask on. Candace grabs the purple light bulb proclaiming that they broke the exhibit and she is going to tell Linda. Of course. Now; Candace leaves as Phineas crosses two wires together from some engine and out appears Candace with the purple light bulb doing the same promo and running stage left. Oookkaayy.

Phineas calls this cool and here comes Isabella (who seems to have no problem violating Fireside Girls code by not wearing her uniform with the other girls) and Ginger, Holly, Milly, Gretchen and Adyson in tow. Isabella asks what they are doing and Phineas honestly tells them that they are fixing the time machine. Isabella asks if this is sort of impossible and Phineas claims that it's possible....with a straight face I might add. Isabella wishes Phineas good luck and all the girls walk away stage left. So we head to Doofensmirtz Evil Inc barely two and a half minutes complete with jingle. So we cut to outside the building as we discover that Doofen does indeed have a swimming pool out back; which Perry comes out of in scuba gear. Don't ask me how he got there. It's Phineas & Ferb; you're better off not asking about that logic break. So Perry takes off the scuba gear and rolls with a laser type gun. He practices the fine art of not being seen as we see a shadow of Doofen with a laser gun firing wildly. Then Perry actually opens the door without smashing it! GREAT! We see that the place is roughed up and Doofensmirtz looks roughed up as well complete with a bear paw mark on the left side of his face. Doofen proclaims that there is no one there at all and is shocked that Perry is here. So we cut to a shot of the closet door shaking and then we cut back to Doofen turning his face as the paw mark is now on the right side of his face to hide it. Doofen claims that he has a mice problem and chuckles in a contrived manner. So Perry marches to the closet and opens it to reveal....a panda wearing a brown red hat who is the same size and height as Perry? Really? Doofen tries to hide the fact that there is a bear in his closet and has no idea who he is. Allegedly. Doofen wipes the paw print from his cheek as he claims that they are not enemies; they are just bad friends as we discover that it's Peter The Panda. Yeah; this is a fools errand. So we see Candace in the museum yelling in a No Yelling Zone calling for Linda; but the police officer cuts her off telling her not to yell; which Candace basically tells him to sod off in roundabout terms with a waking the dead reference. Yeah; she's done for.

So we head outside on the steps as Candace was thrown out of the building. We see a brown haired teenager with a black shirt noticing this and Candace asks why he was thrown out and they show him with the skeleton remains of a pterodactyl. Yeah; it's so awful merely to yell, but stealing something from the museum only get you thrown out. That's whack! So Candace yanks on the shirt and demands help as we see Candace is now trying to master the art of Gosalyn bullying Honker Muddlefoot. She wants to get back inside and asks please about three times. The boy agrees to do it and he has an ingenious plan which involves military like stealth, precision and training. And then he just tiptoes in and screams from the top of his lungs. Security dude #1 is on transmitter calling for backup as the "Bad Episode" Police run in and not notice that Candace is hiding away with the purple light bulb. So she gets thrown out for yelling; but the police don't even know that she stole the light bulb part of the time machine. So Candace runs back into the musuem and we discover that Mr. Slushy Dawg is in the museum as a refreshment area. Oh; and Jermey is working at the counter. Wait, what?! Does that make any sense? So they make small talk for a while as Jermey is bored and claims that he'll probably be part of the fossils when the shift is over. Candace laughs way too loud for it to be acting and I betcha the guards hear it and she bails. I check the DVD...Damn; I'm good as the original dark skinned guard walks in and Candace bails stage right with the light bulb. So we head back to the time machine as we see Phineas looking at the circuit quanti-stabilizers claiming that they are ready to be tested. Did I mention Phineas wearing the yellow hard hat makes him look like a complete tool? So Ferb hands him a screwdriver and touches one of the stabilizers with it. We finally see Candace run in with the purple light bulb to Linda and Lawerence and then she disappears in a puff of purple smoke and reappears right in front of Jermey and laughing at his fossil joke. So we test number two and number three as Candace is laughing and greeting Jermey while disappearing and reappearing. HA!

Jermey looks freaked out and sezs as much that he is. So we cut back to the back of the time machine as the dark skinned fat security guard walks in and does the Gruffi pose asking if they are a little young to be working at a museum. Phineas just calmly answers in an honest manner that he is. I betcha the guard accepts it cart-blanche and leaves, because you see, the guards hate yelling and stealing, but have no problems with unlicensed workers fixing exhibits. Damn; I am so good as the officer is happy to see them taking interest in science. So he asks if he can do anything for them and Phineas states that there is a piece missing which looks like a purple lightbulb which Ferb shows a diagram of. The officer proclaims that it looks familiar and bails stage left to see if he can find it. This absolutely cracks me up for all the wrong reasons, but I still laughed at it. So we head to Doofensmirtz Evil Inc. (minus jingle sadly) with serious music as we head in front of the closet as Doofen apologizes for finding out this way and Doofen admits that Peter The Panda is his new nemesis which Perry is not amused by. So Doofen admits that they met in an Evil Genius Expo in Seattle which has to be a lie because that would imply that Doofen is an evil genius. Evil hilarious, yes. Evil genius, no. So apparently; Peter The Panda is now foiling evil schemes of Doofen and Doofen thinks that the Perry/Doofen battles are now entirely pointless and stale. When the writers have admitted that this is like a Roadrunner cartoon, that is not a good sign. Perry looks confused as Doofen calls for glasses of water and Peter bails and returns with two glasses of water. Doofen and Peter drink up as Doofen wants to make a clean break and wants Perry to fight someone different then him. Doofen shows Perry the green door; and Perry notices on the eastern pan shot another Lightning Gun like device as Doofen admits that it's the Freeze-inator; but he cannot explain it because he already did to Peter. HA! Doofen tells Perry not to worry because he is going to be stopped by Peter anyway and closes the door saying goodbye. Perry looks sad and walks out as Doofen curses Peter the Panda inside. HAHA!

So we return as the dark skinned guard is standing there in the museum and then we see purple smoke and it's Candace with the light bulbs. They both scream at each other and then the guard asks if he threw her out earlier and then sees that she stole the purple lightbulb and calls it almost "yelling" serious. These museum rules of engagement are so "loudy" bad at this point. See what I did there? So we head back to the back of the time machine as Phineas & Ferb crack circuit jokes as he touches the screwdriver again and somehow the guard has the lightbulb and he disappears (thus the purple lightbulb is what creates the portal) and he reappears in front of Phineas & Ferb repeating his promo on what he can do for them. Phineas looks like he's concerned about this guy's well being and asks about finding the purple lightbulb. So the officer notices the purple lightbulb and gives it to Phineas before walking out. Also when the officer disappears, Candace bails yelling for Linda. So we get a sad sequence as it's raining and Perry looks at Doofensmirtz Evil Inc. in sadness as I just realize that this is basically a male version of Gadget leaving the Rangers in The Case Of The Cola Cult. He is sad as he is front of a Chinese Resturant which has a panda bear on it and then we go to the TEDDY RUXPIN SONG OF DOOM which actually makes this version of Gadget's breakdown a lot better than the real thing. The song is basically a knockoff of Kenny Roger's hit song Through The Years called When We Didn't Get Along which is sung to Perry's point of view. We get footage from various episodes in Season one including the finish to Flop Starz and some original footage of slow motion running on the beach as this is basically a parody of the Toy Story 2 song When She Loved Me and romance movie song in general. And then Doofenmirtz got punched on screen. Oh; how I laughed! So it ends with Perry returning to headquarters as Karl comes on the monitor screen and sheds a tear. Perry walks to a panel and it opens to reveal a plastic foam head and he puts the hat onto the foam head and slowly closes the panel as we fade to black. This is so hilariously stupid and awesome at the same time.

So we return outside of the Museum of Natural History as we see Lawerence go to Linda and ask for five dollars for the audio tour and Linda gives him five bucks without question. Lawerence leaves as I ask: Wait; so Lawerence has no money of his own? As he bails stage left; Linda calls him an amateurs (implying that his work is for fun) as Candace runs in yelling and basically tells her that Phineas & Ferb are in the gadgets throughout the ages fixing a time machine. This leads to one of those spots where Candace is saying please about a dozen times and trying to push Linda away; but Linda no sells everything. Linda finally decides to relent and suddenly, Candace embraces her and loves her. Riiiiggggghhhhhhtttttttt. So Candace drags Linda away as we return to Phineas & Ferb are at the time machine as Phineas has a red scooter while Ferb is on the time machine putting the purple light bulb on the top. Phineas asks about the machine being fixed as Ferb gives the thumbs up and we get the purple swirly thing just as Candace runs in and proclaims that the boys are so busted. However; the time machine engulfs them and Candace, Phineas & Ferb disappear with the time machine; but the tools and blueprints are left on the floor. Linda comes into the room and is calling for Candace, completely ignoring the stuff on the floor that incriminates Phineas & Ferb. Yeah; she's stupid. So we head to an open field as the time machine reappears in a purple swirl as Candace, Phineas & Ferb look stunned. And at least Phineas was able to bring his scooter to the proceedings. So we see dinosaurs and giant lizards screeching as there is a volcano in the background spewing lava. One of the lizard gets in Candace's face and slips her the tongue. Sort of. Candace hops into the time machine and is like she's on the Tilt-A-Whirl yelling for Phineas to take her home about a dozen times in succession. Phineas has no issue with that; but then a T-Rex come in and completely squashes the entire time machine and somehow Phineas, Ferb and Candace just stand there in it's path and come out without any damage whatsoever. That's a Spongebob Trick if I ever saw one. Ferb proclaims that this could be a problem as the T-Rex growls at them and that ends the segment 10 and a half minutes in. This is very good thus far...

After the commercial break; we see the T-Rex growling at them from another shot as Phineas wants them to keep the voices low and no sudden moves; which Candace proceeds to do the exact opposite because she is such an idiot. As usual. At least it was not like Huey Duck where he tells them to be quiet and then scream as loud as possible, so that is a win. So Candace bails stage northwest as the T-Rex chases her and ignores the boys of course. Phineas claims that this worked and wants to save Candace as they get on the scooter; as Phineas realizes that they have no helmets because Phineas has the foresight of Jackie The Stalker Whackerman from Kick Buttowski. So some turtles show up and you can see where this is going. Good thing BS&P was on the ball here, eh? So we have Candace getting chased by the T-Rex as she faceplants in the lake of mud and then gets up and runs off. The T-Rex follows and create a giant footprint in said mud which gets a closeup. So we head to the outside shot of the Museum of Natural History as we see Lawerence finishing the audio tour of the museum as the voice tells him if he wants to replay the tour; just flip the tape. Which Lawerence is shocked to hear thus implying that he thinks this museum is copyrighted. Or something. Anyhow; he then is amazed because he sees a slab of rock containing the indent of the T-Rex footprint and the indent of Candace when she pratfell. HAHA! Lawerence is so amused that he bails to find Linda. So we see Phineas & Ferb on the scooter with turtles on their heads as helmets. No one can accuse Phineas & Ferb of not having the Gadget Hackwrench bug, that is for sure. So this goes on as we break logic as we see more forest than waterfall when Phineas & Ferb run over the indent of Candace with the scooter. This leads as back inside the museum as Lawerence calls it amazing that this looks like Candace and we see the big tire line swiping across the middle of the stone stab; ruining the Candace indent. Linda examines it and blows off Lawerence like Teddy Ruxpin. HAHA! I love real comments that aren't supposed to be real comments. Question is; who is not nice here?

So here's the next sequence of events: Candace runs and hides in the tall grass. Candace meets horned lizard. Candace screams as well as the horned lizards who pop up and blow their cover. Candace and horned lizard run in various directions as Phineas comes in with the scooter and asks what Candace is doing. HAHA! Candace blows them off in a panic and gets on. More chasing as Candace asks why there is a turtle on her head as they reach the deep river. They jump and land on large vines; as Phineas proclaims that they are safe, but we pan up to see the vines are part of a longneck dinosaur. Candace asks how this is any better and Phineas points out that longnecks are vegans. So the dinosaur walks over to the other side as Phineas asks her to put them down because they are meat after all; and somehow the dinosaur understands and lowers the vines down to near ground level on the other side and they hop down. Phineas thanks the dinosaur which somehow the dinosaur understands. This is a segueway to go in the jungle with the kids. Phineas loves this; Candace demands that they get home because she cannot bust them at this time. Nice one Candace, nice one. So they are at a dried up mud lake as we see the imprint from the T-Rex earlier which Candace points out that it tried to eat her alive. Phineas finds a stick and appears to be tickling the imprint on the ground; which seems awkward to me. Phineas apparently has a plan as we head back to the museum and the same rock Lawerence was at as the Fireside Girls are at the display and we see inside the T-Rex imprint that there is a message that reads: "Time machine destroyed, stuck in 300 million BC, please help! Phineas, Ferb & Candace which drops off after Canda. Oh; that Phineas, he's such a ham sometimes. So they run out to a room which contains tools and blueprints on the floor including a banana yellow jackhammer. Ummm; yeah this is so convenient as the Backyardigans would say. So Isabella wants the girls to refer to the Fireside Girls Handbook of Truth and they open the books to read. Then Isabella of all people asks where Perry is which was amusing to me.

So we head to Doofensmirtz Evil Inc. (complete with sunny skies and jingle) and some flying bats as we head inside as Doofensmirtz gets thrown right into the wall and the wall doesn't break. SOMEONE FIRE THAT WALL! Then we see that there is a picture frame hanging which has that stock photo of Doofenmirtz OWCA uses everytime Perry is on a mission. So this thing is a work all along! I feel so betrayed. NOT! Peter runs in as the picture frame lands on his groin; and Doofen uses the picture to protect himself as Peter kicks the photo in the face and tears the face of the picture. So that means we stop fighting and Doofen looks at the picture and has an emotional moment with it. HAHA! So we hit the flashback as we see Doofenmirtz getting his picture taken at a photoshop studio of course because Doofen is so plastic. So he goes outside and admires the lovely picture of him behind the background of a beach in Hawaii as he thinks he saw someone behind a blue mailbox on the opposite side of the street. Doofen proclaims that he had a nemesis and we see the figure appear from the mailbox and it's Agent Perry of course. This leads to the TEDDY RUXPIN SONG OF DOOM; only this one is a lot more upbeat song called My Nemesis which is done by Danny Jacob who did the voices of the Phineadroid and Ferbots in I, Brobot. Hats drop as one of the singers look like that Shaggy clone from Josie & The Pussycats as Doofen is reading an evil book of horror and trying to do evil things to a James Bond wannabe; but the laser doesn't work because Perry unplugged. Doofensmirtz doesn't seem to mind because he has a nemesis. They play on a banana yellow see saw giving eye contact violence and then they chase around a tree which ends with Doofensmirtz getting netted and he don't care because he has a nemesis. This is just awesome. One of the singer has yellow hair and the Ernie shirt, the other one has a green vest with blue striped shirt and green glasses on. So we return to reality (no, not really) with Doofensmirtz is dancing and humming to the beat; and then he gets confused and notices Peter is diassembling the Freeze-inator. UH OH!

Doofensmirtz is really upset now because Peter did all this while singing and expressing his feelings; and Doofensmirtz yells that he is now dead to him twice in a row and then runs off sobbing like a baby. So Peter was in fact in cahoots with Doofen all this time and now has turned into....Wha?! I think I know where this is going; but I cannot put my thumb on it. We head with the same outside shot of the museum and we HIT THE MONTAGE of the Fireside Girls creating a new time machine. Geez; why not? It's not like this wasn't unpossible the first time they brought this plot device into this world. So Isabella proclaims that they are all done and they get into the time machine. One of the FSG pulls the lever (JESUS!) and out comes....a conveyer belt loaded with colored ties and bowties. Isabella then checks the blueprints again and apparently, Ferb cannot spell time right; because this was a TIE machine. HAHA! Ferb is clearly a silent Kit in that he can say it; but he cannot spell it. The problem with this is; how can anyone misspell the word "time"? It's only four letters. At least spinach had seven words in it. So we head to a television screen showing Perry's eyes and hat on top of a winged logo with the letters SSSN; which in red letters is the Super Secret Spy Network as an announcer proclaims that this show is called Doctor Feelbetter; who is pretty much a cross between Doctor Feelgood and Doctor Phil in terms of pop culture references. Feelbetter even has similar speech mannerism to Doctor Phil actually. He's much more subtle than Chuck Homer in Ducky Dearest by the way. Feelbetter is a doctor in a white coat, bald with grey side hair and mustache with glasses on. And an orange shirt under the coat. I wonder if the producers originally wanted Doctor Phil himself to voice Doctor Feelbetter; but declined for whatever reason. So the topic of discussion is "I want to be your nemesis again" as we get a shot of the crowd which are all furries wearing the same hats.

This is actually the first visages of the fact that OWCA actually has more than two agents which are Agent P and Agent E. There is Agent D (dog), Agent F (Frog), Agent R (Raccoon), Agent C (Cluck the chicken), Agent O (Owl), Agent K (Kitty) and Agent H (Hog); along with the Kangeroo from another episode. Along with some doctors I have not seen in this series yet as they are clapping too. Sadly; Agent E didn't make it. So we go on the set with a lot of four leaf clovers and green in the background which indicates that he is depending on luck to make money. That sounds about right. So Doctor Feelbetter goes over to Perry sitting in the chair to the right of the coffee table while Doofenmirtz is sitting in a chair to the left of the coffee table. Feelbetter talks about the feeling of losing a nemesis and wants Agent P to express his feelings. So Doofen cuts him off and points out that he cannot speak. Feelbetter then asks if this lead to Doofensmirtz wanting to replace Perry and Doofenmirtz points out that it's not the case because Peter The Panda doesn't speak either. Feelbetter asks if it's because animals cannot speak and Doofenmirtz proclaims that they don't and then asks what kind of evil scientist is here. I died. Feelbetter than counters by claiming that Peter the Panda is backstage and he proves to be telling the truth here as we see a PIP shot of Peter backstage on headphones as the crowd is in shock. Doofen stammers like an idiot as Perry doesn't look amused as Feelbetter introduces Peter the Panda who walks in and the entire furry and doctor crowd absolutely boos him out of the building despite Peter's attempts to look cool by swaying around. So we head back to the mud lake as Candace sits on the edge of the mud lake with her knees curled up groaning about being stuck in ancient times while Phineas & Ferb are doing meditation right on the rock; but not directly under the waterfall, sadly. BS&P RULEZ you know! Candace whines about normal stuff while carving a heart with C & J on it proclaiming that she'll never see Jermey again and then Candace demands answers from Phineas; and Phineas is practicing patience just to stick it to Candace. HAHA!

So Candace sits down in the middle of the rock and mediatates badly. You are doing it wrong Candace as she proclaims that is cannot get any worse and then the storm clouds come in instantly and rains on her. Her hair gets soaked and she proclaims that this is the world's first bad hair day. Then we hear roaring and we zoom out to see that the T-Rex has found them. Candace yells at Phineas about the rescue party he sent and Phineas admits that he misspelled time machine on the blueprints. Ferb's response is to say: I hope this is not an issue. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! And then the purple swirly arrives and we see the time machine plopped right on the mud lake with the Fireside Girls who apparently, Katie has joined in for no reason that I can think of. Isabella does the what'cha doing spot and this one really made me laugh as Phineas, Ferb and Candace hop in as Phineas proclaims that they were waiting for them. Candace is so happy as Ferb pushes the lever about three times (JESUS * 3!); but there is nothing...AND THE ROCK MEANS NOTHING~! So then we discover that they built a time machine that requires it to be plugged in. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Candace hops out and she is PISSED as she turns around and blows off the T-Rex. HAHA! Phineas tells Candace not to make any sudden moves. Now Candace has the plug in her hands and blows Phineas off because they are doomed anyway since there is no electricty to plug in the damn thing; and then Candace gets struck with a lightning bolt and that turns on the machine and they disappear through the purple swirl. We then head back to the exact same spot where the second time machine was and it reappears on cue with Candace looking like a orange haired version of The Bride of Frankenstein; which should be The Bride of The Creature. The kids are so thrilled that they hop out of the time machine and walk out stage right. Candace is roughed up; but she swipes her hair and feels relieved. So she walks to the left and bumps into the T-Rex. That is exactly what happens; which makes no sense at all. Candace screams and the T-Rex chases Candace again. Yeah....By the way; the male announcer also tells us that there is 10 minutes left before they close the museum.

So we see that Doctor Feelbetter went to commercial and we head back as the stage is clear and Peter is throwing chairs right into the entrance to the left side of the stage. Doctor Feelbetter is thankful for him stacking those chairs too. So Doctor Feelbetter combines Doctor Phil and Jerry Springer, all in one show. I can smell a reality television series being made now where they have quacks squaring off against legit scientists now. Orac and company will hate them and send boycott letters to whichever networks for this; but we know this is going to happen sooner or later. You have fair warning my pretties. Sadly; the two chairs where Perry and Doofen are sitting are intact. So Doctor Feelbetter asks Doofensmirtz to tell Perry his true feeling to Agent P. Doofensmirtz proclaims to Perry that he is sorry for hurting him in the wrong way and wants to do it right with cartoonish violence and elaborate traps brought from the internet as even Perry is in tears which is a first for this show. Still has less emotion than Phineas though. This is so funny that it's clear that they are not playing this straight. Perry ponders this for a moment as the crowd thinks it's so sweet of him. Perry I think sezs yes on the microphone and then Doofensmirtz brings out the remote control and the furries all get cuffed to the chairs; including Peter The Panda which makes no sense since there were only two chairs left. I guess Peter missed one eh? So I'm guessing this is Peter's babyface turn now as Doofensmirtz is so happy as I note that none of the humans get cuffed to the chairs and are enjoying the senseless animal violence that is to come. So Doofensmirtz orders someone to bring in the real Freeze-inator and a human does which is clearly labeled the Real Freezeinator as he outsmarted Peter The Panda too. HAHA! Don't you just love it when the heel can make Perry look like an idiot while still making me laugh? So he finally reveals that he is using the Freezeinator to freeze all the Agents in one room and make them as part of his giant chess board. So yes folks; that explains what happened to Major Monogram.

Here's my theory on what happened here: I'm guessing Monogram was betrayed by Peter in a fake heel turn and then Peter decided to join Doofen; so Doofen devised this plan to make it look like Peter had taken over Perry's job and they were attacking each other just to throw him off the scent for a bit. So then Peter The Panda turns on Doofen; so Doofen goes on Doctor Feelbetter to make it seem like it's simply a break up, and then we see Perry was in position as the remaining agents join in the crowd. There is reconcilination and then Doofen finally blows his covers and traps them all. Now THAT is brilliant and makes sense! So we see Feelbetter flick the red switch on the wall; which means that he was in on the conspiracy as well (sadly that was given away by the fact that Doofen blew him off as an evil scientist.). That makes the chairs vibrate as we head back to the museum as Candace screams and runs away through the next room and then turns the corner to discover Lawerence and Linda. They greet Candace as Candace warns them not go any further because there is a killer T-Rex loose in the damn museum. Linda laughs it off as her having Lawerence's imagination. Yeah; she's a realist in the wrong place right now. So we head back to the talk show of freezing death as Doofen goes over to Perry and asks if it's all right if he sezs a goodbye to Peter and Perry doesn't seem to be amused at all. Doofensmirtz goes over to Peter and stammers about this strange feeling and then Peter finally kicks Doof in the face; completely turning Peter babyface and he falls down on his back and out comes the remote. Perry does a backflip onto the floor; which takes the chair down and he pushes it as the Freeze-inator as it finally fires; but by that time, the laser is firing straight up into the air breaking the SSSN building's ceiling. It bounces off the sattelite and it hits a direct hit through the ceiling of the museum and nails the T-Rex, freezing him in it's track. Then we see Linda and Lawerence walking into the room as Candace pleas for them not to go in; and we see Lawerence and Linda loving this life-like statue of a dinosaur as Candace turns around and she is shocked as usual.

She should only be so lucky. So we return to inside the studio of SSSN as Doofensmirtz looking at his hands realizing that he has lost the remote. So Perry runs over and smashes the remote on the floor; which frees the cuffs from the agents and then we get the best animal fight I have ever seen which sadly buried Agent H because he got his hat pulled over his eyes. Jerry Springer needs to do a fursuit version of this fight, STAT! The doctors all get squashed easily by the animals with agent hats on as they show off their Jerry Springer moves which is funnier than the real thing. So we return back to the dinosaur exhibit as Candace is looking glum while Linda has her eyes on her. Lawerence is smiling as we see Phineas & Ferb greet everyone and then states that they felt like they literally went back in time. Lawerence brushes his hair and calls him Phin for the first time as he proclaims that these exhibits make the past seem so real. Perry arrives as Phineas notices him right away. The adults and the kids walk out as Candace stands there looking like she's ready to cry and then we see Jeremy at the wall as there is a piece of stone mounted on the wall; and it's the heart imprint (the one with C & J) on it, which is his favorite piece in the entire museum. Candace is blushing and then giggles. Candace leaves as Jermey walks over and notices a picture of cave people with turtles on their heads in the background which amuses Jermey. HAHA! Circle fade out. So it's time for the ED: We see Linda in bed with her blue mask on (why do female adults wear those at night in cartoons? I saw Rebecca wear one too in Balooest of Bluebloods; but she doesn't wear it all the time...). So basically what happens here is that Lawerence is talking about fossils making music sounds and then rewinding the tape. The guise here is that we are supposed to believe that Lawerence is asleep; but he is clearly not as he still has the musuem audio tape in the tape recorder. So they aren't rentals after all? Linda is smiling anyway and that ends the episode and this DVD set at 21:35. There's your first perfect episode right there folks. Great digs on time travel, romance, and one of the most complex and brilliant evil schemes ever devised in the new Disney. What more can you say? If there was any reason to enjoy the modern era of cartoons; this episode convinced me as it wasn't overwritten, the pacing was great and it all made sense; and I laughed at all of it from start to finish. ***** (100%).

One more thing....The Bonus content contains the usual kids games like all new Disney shows have nowadays on DVD. However; the creators actually threw the adults a bone because it's time for....

The Original Pitch Idea For "Roller Coaster": OH HELL YEAH! I'm not going to spoil this one other than add some notes about this extra on the DVD. So we head to the computer storyboard area (I can tell because there are storyboards plastered all over the walls in the corner where the computer is. We see Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" March as they introduce themselves in their computer chairs. We see a still photo of the end shot of the opening because it's still awesome even when Candace is not. The following that is shown is the original pitch idea for the series which was shown to the Disney brass in 2006; which shows a lot of pre-school level drawings; which is fine since most execs are at that level in creativity anyway. They decided to pitch the idea to Disney in a form of a storyboard instead of a script. Now; that sounds original until you realize that the old DTVA creative did the same thing to pitch the show as shown during the San Diego Comic Con when I saw Jymn Magon use pitch cards to pitch the Goof Troop idea. Sadly; Dan & Jeff's version of it is less funny than Jymn Magon's version of it. So basically Dan & Jeff run through the entire storyboard plastered on the walls on the episode and provide voices for all the characters. For Doofensmirtz; that's no problem since Dan is his voice anyway. Needless to say; they liked it and wanted it sent oversea to the animation department which Jeff claims that he thought was a bribe. HAHA! Dan had this idea for recording his voice pitching it and then edit the pictures together with the voices (which we get the scene from Lights! Candace! Action! where Ferb is editing the stuff to make Candace look like Ashley Tinsdale in real life) as Jeff jokes about being relieved that Dan wasn't the voice of Isabella. HAHA! They pat themselves on the back as we see storyboard footage compared to the final product of the opening starting with P&F floating away from the rocket. Jeff and Dan also tell us that this is the full version of it as the original has scenes cut, edited, names changed and other stuff that was different from the original pitch. So we get an introduction with still photo on the pitch as Phineas & Ferb look about the same along with Perry as well. So yeah; this show seems to be really refined when this was pitched, probably because it started back in 1991 as the story goes. They joke about name sizes which is only slightly more amusing then penis size jokes. Most of this introduction I explained before, only with family photos this time. So I'm not going to waster any more talking about the pitch. It's a really neat pitch; but it is 21 minutes long compared to the four minute one Jymn Magon did at Comic-Con; and sadly; as I mentioned, Jymn's is much, much funnier. No rating for this one though. When I rant on Rollercoaster for real; I'll write down the changes compared to the original pitch. When will that happen....Don't know.

THE REVIEW LINE

Well; we end "The Fast & The Phineas" on a really high note and a watershed moment for the show in it's first season. I loved this episode as the time machine gimmick was awesome here as it was pretty well done and most of it made sense. Sure; the out of nowhere Katie was a bit goofy and there were the usual mistakes. However; the animation felt great, Candace was really good in jerk mode, Phineas & Ferb looked great, and the Fireside Girls got their over the top moment to make them get over for good as well. However; as good as that was, the Doof/Perry segment was EPIC. The plan was completely ingenious on Doof's part: Get Perry to believe Peter has taken over his turf and quit. Peter then pretends to side with Doofen; Doofen pretends to be Peter's friend, Peter turns on Doofen, Doofen pretends it's merely a breakup, get on a Doctor Phil clone show, express your feeling and ask for Perry to come back, Perry takes the bait and then snap. Yeah; there was the flaw of Doofen calling Feelbetter an evil scientist which blows their cover, but no one cared because we laughed at it since many consider the real Doctor Phil to be a quack anyway. So it worked perfectly and there was no logic break. I have not seen a great complex evil plan like this in the new Disney since A Bad Reflection On You. That's no small feat to be put on the level of a TaleSpin episode. Perry's sad moment with the rain and the music was so awesome and hilarious that it made "Case Of The Cola Cult"'s version of it look second rate. There was character development and everything. Plus; it all made sense had a wonderful finish and the ED was amusing. Candace got her blush moment with Jermey too. This was a wonderful episode as the pacing was great in this and didn't feel like overwritten BS for once. I am now more convinced than ever that this show is wonderful and deserves to be said in the same breath as Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, Kim Possible, Filmore and yes even Tale F'N Spin. Great job Dan and Jeff. I cannot wait for the Perry Files and Perry Files: Animal Agents episodes which are next. So the final count thus far after 18 episodes: six thumbs up, 10 thumbs in the middle and two thumbs down. A great ratio; but the amount of thumbs up episode could be higher if it wasn't so sloppy at times. As in Darkwing Duck level sloppiness. Phineas & Ferb; it's not the best show in the world. But it is one of the most enjoyable shows I have watched in a long while. I feel like they care about me as an adult and they for the most part don't insult me or the kids. However; they seriously need to find someway to make Candace look a lot less stupid and jerky. I don't mind the jerkiness nearly as much as the stupidity though. So....

Thumbs way up for this episode and I'll see you all next time.
