Kim Possible: Gorilla Fist
Reviewed: 11/11/2012
The Only Monkey In This One Has The "Ron Factor" In It.
Welcome to more of the Fall Assortment as we trek into more fun with Kim Possible and her always funny sidekick Ron Stoppable as we get our first rant of the third monster heel of the show with Lord Monkeyfist. Strangely; this episode aired as 3-64 on the air order paper which was after So The Drama aired on Disney Channel. Unlike some of the episodes after So The Drama aired; this was perfectly acceptable and would have some hope that Monkeyfist would become the defacto #1 heel on the show from that point on. Well; as usual, it didn't happen. Basically; the plot is Ron helping a Japanese friend find her sensai who is apparently kidnapped by monster heel; but Kim is jealous for some reason. What happens? Let's rant on shall we...?!
This episode is written and story edited by Bob Schooley and Mark McCorkle. The animation is done by Rough Draft Studios.
We begin this one at Middleton High School (Sign of The Day: Home Of Double Cheese Pizza. So I'm guessing that their chef is a pizza expert par excellence.) as the bell rings and I see Rough Draft Studios has at least made the American flag look believable this time around. So we head inside the lunchroom as we go to the table to see Ron and Rufus eating about a half dozen slices of pizza while Kim has the Gruffi pose on. Kim is wearing cyan blue today as Ron and Rufus eat all the pizza slices and burp. An African American girl sitting next to Kim with a red shirt, red earring and black hair which flows like the wind is repulsed by this. She is Kim Possible's friend Monique who is voiced by Raven Symone Christina Pearman (FINALLY!) and according to the USIMDB: Raven-Symoné Pearman was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but at a young age moved to New York. Raven is of both African American and Native American descent. While there Raven signed with the Ford Modeling Agency. They sent her out on a audition for a movie called Ghost Dad (1990), which also starred the legendary Bill Cosby. She was deemed too young for the role since was only 3 years old, but Cosby could see she had talent. They asked Raven to come back to read lines, and she did so well that she got a starring role as Olivia on the last three seasons of "The Cosby Show" (1984). After the show finished its run, she decided to try something new like singing. In 1993, she became the youngest person ever to sign with MCA Records. She also went back to acting with a starring role in "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper" (1992), alongside Mark Curry and a small role in the TV mini-series "Queen" (1993). After another small role in the feature film The Little Rascals (1994) and the role of Goldilocks in the TV series "Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child" (1995), "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper" ended. Raven's singing career was doing well and she landed a role in Doctor Dolittle (1998) alongside Eddie Murphy and a made-for-TV movie called Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century (1999) (TV).
She also starred in Dr. Dolittle 2 (2001), but she was not available to do Zenon: The Zequel (2001) (TV). However, the Walt Disney Company, which made the Zenon movies, wanted her back to do a pilot for a new Disney TV show called "Absolutely Psychic," in which she would be a supporting character. She impressed them so much that they changed the show's premise to be about her and the show's name was changed to "That's So Raven" (2003). After the show was a hit she did the made-for-TV movie The Cheetah Girls (2003) (TV) and recorded a new album. She started with A Different World as Olivia in 1989 which was a spinoff of the Cosby Show which she also appeared in as the same character. The Proud Family as Stephanie is her DTVA debut and she also appeared on Filmore as Alexandria Quarry and Maryanne Greene, and is Iridessa in the Tinker Bell OAV's. Of course in Disney Channel land; she's Raven Baxter who is the older sister of Corey Baxter who is played by the same voice actor as Milo in Fish Hooks. Kim agrees with Monique because we discover that the pizza itself is just cheese on cardboard as Ron counters by proclaiming that cheese on cardboard is still cheese. HAHA! Even Monique has to agree with Ron on that one. Ron wants thirds along with Rufus so Ron goes over to the lunchlady; who looks like an old lady and she dumps Ron some gray gruel to counter Ron's funny Oliver Twist promo. Ron proclaims that the dream is over and then we get a lime green/blue blotched phantom appearing behind Ron and Ron bails and hides behind Kim and Monique. Both girls mock Ron for too much cheese making him see things which Ron blows off because you can never have too much cheese. Well; Ron was never the sharpest knife in the Kim Possible universe, and has yet to grasp the concept of "The dose is the poison". And kids are screaming anyway which means the mystery meat is not causing it as Kim walks in and we discover that it's writing gravy on the wall and Ron is hoping that it's a red haired kid's name for skipping gym. The red haired kid points out that this is not the case as it's Ron Stoppable on the wall. Ron screams as we get a zoom in shot of his mouth and then we HIT THE OPENING~!
So we head to Ron's pink house AFTER HAPPY HOUR (after dark) as Ron is in the living room on the sofa hiding in a ghost sheet. I think the irony of hiding in a white sheet while being scared of ghost is totally lost on Ron at this point. Kim is trying to point out that he cannot stay in that sheet forever and Ron blows it off. We discover that the red haired kid's name is Ron Regger. Sadly; none of my research notes say who voiced Ron Regger; so if anyone knows; please e-mail me and let me know. Oh and I discovered in the last rant Crush; that Wade's Father is known as Lataine. Kim proclaims that real ghosts don't use mystery meat gravy and Ron calls this a true mystery and then gets scared by his own shadow. And then Rufus does his own shadow on the lamp and Ron hides again. HAHA! Kim leaves to get a lead on Ron's ghost from Wade and as she walks away from the property; there is a female ninja dressed in black hiding behind the trees. So Ron locks up his house and looks through the peep hole because he's taking no chances tonight. And Rufus goes missing...for about three seconds as he casually walks through the cat door. HAHA! So Ron barricades it with a dresser drawer (NOT THOSE ONES!) and thinks he's safe. However; the female ninja somehow gets in and takes her mask off to reveal a Japanese female with darker skin and a pink headband. Ron actually addresses her as Yori who is a student from Japan who is part of the Yamanouchi which is a ninja school for people who want to master Monkey Fist Kung Fu. Those are my kind of people! So we make some small talk as Yori needs Ron to perform his screams of courage (HAHA!) and help her save her sensei who apparently has been kidnapped. Yori shows him a paper with monkey hair on it and Ron deduces that it is Lord Monkey Fist as he wants to inform Kim about this right away; but Yori reminds him of the sacred vow of not telling anyone about his last visit to Japan and to Sensai and company. Ooooookkkkaaayyyy.
Yori is voiced by Keiko Agena and according to Wikipedia (DANGER! DANGER!): Agena is probably best known for her role in Gilmore Girls, where she played Lane Kim, a Korean-American teenager who is the best friend of Rory Gilmore, one of the lead characters. Agena played this role despite being significantly older than her character, who was 18 at the start of the series when Agena was 27. Agena has also played the role of Mearing's Aide, Mearing being played by Frances McDormand, in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Agena also appeared in three episodes of Felicity as Leila Foster, a girl who comes to the lead character for assistance in acquiring the morning after pill and participates in a protest when denied said medication. She was a recipient of the Best Female Actor award in the Emmy Awards, which honor Asian and Asian-American achievement in film or television. She also provided the voice of Yori in the Disney cartoon series Kim Possible in seasons 2, 3, and 4 of the show. Also, Agena played Jun Ni in the movie Hair Show starring Mo'Nique. She guest-starred on Private Practice, Castle, and episode 12 of the final season of ER. She also appeared in Private Valentine: Blonde & Dangerous alongside Jessica Simpson as an army private. In 2010 she appeared onstage in No-No Boy in Santa Monica, CA. She later appeared in an episode of "House" as Dr. Cheng. She started on Renegade as Mitsuko in 1993. Kim Possible is her only DTVA appearance. Lil Tokyo Reporter as Mrs. Sato and Beautiful People as Miranda are her most recent credits. She has 31 acting credits, one costume/wardrobe credit (The Man Who Invented The Moon) and six self credits to her resume.
So then the blue/green phantom returns to haunt Ron on the coffee table and it shows...a small fat old man wearing robes and meditating. We discover that he is calling for Ron Stoppable-san. This has to be sensei who is voiced by George Takei who I heard as the bird in Flying Fish on Fish Hooks. We then cut to a dungeon cell as this is where Sensei is and he gets rumbled as a Gorilla walks in who seems to be having Larson & Gary's secret Monkey Fist Elixir and that kills the transmission dead. Ron is scared as Yori wants Ron to gain his courage again by rescuing Sensei like he protected the Lotus blade. Ron proclaims that he needs help and he cannot tell Kim nor Wade about it. Yori assures him that she has contacts who will back him up. She also calls Ron humble. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh; that was a good one Yori; real good one. So we head back to Middleton School (Sign Of The Day: Home Of The Gravy Ghost. Eat your heart out Bud's Pets. YOU ARE NOT WORTHY~!) as Kim and Monique are at Wade's computer and Wade has nothing on the ghost. So much for being a know it all. So Kim asks about the gravy and Wade proclaims that she doesn't want to know until after she passes college. Monique takes his word for it as Ron comes in with a food list with Rufus; mostly stuff of the Mexican type. He's going to do his own Mexican Revolution from that taco eatery I have seen on The Weather Network sometimes. Although I haven't heard the ads in months; so I assure the thing went out of business. Kim notices this and asks Ron about it. Ron stammers saying that he's going on a field trip and here comes Yori in a school uniform. Ron stammers to introduce Yori and Kim is already thinking that Yori is hitting on Ron. I should point out that this makes a hell lot more sense when you consider that this episode took place after So The Drama where Ron and Kim finally accepted themselves as a future couple.
Ron is so trying too hard to hide the fact that Yori is here to rescue Sensei because of the code including badmouthing her to make it look like he never met Yori. Ron; this is too funny and it's not working. Kim is not buying this as Ron decides to leave stage right; and Yori follows him thus killing the illusion right there. Kim is weird out as Monique accuses Kim of jelling; which is slang for being jealous. Kim blows it off because she always had green eyes and that Ron would tell her if he had a boyfriend. Monique doesn't buy those jelling green eyes as they both give counter Gruffi poses to each other. So we head back to Kim's house AFTER HAPPY HOUR as Kim is lying on her bed studying or doing something that doesn't involve homework. I'm not sure which as we get the THREE BEEPS OF DOOM as Kim asks Wade on information on Yori and there is none. Kim asks about school records and Wade will do a global scan which will take 1/2 an hour. Kim looks worried as we head to inside an airport terminal where Ron is doing the same spot that Baloo did to Kit in Your Baloo's In The Mail: The luggage that is bigger than his body weight. I cannot tell you how much that spot sucks now. We discover that Monkey Fist was last seen in the Amazon Rain Forest which Ron calls the Amazing Rain Forest. HAHA! It also shows a red X on the map as Yori giggles at the American joke. Ummm; that joke is so unique to Ron Stoppable that it might as well have it's own country, with Ron as the head of state. So Ron looks at the "electronic billboard with lines on it so we cannot read them in some sick joke to make Al Khan laugh his ass off"; and discovers that the flights to South America are booked. So a ninja breaks all logic and reason goes through the wall without causing damage to said wall and gives Ron two "Ninja Tickets". HAHA! Yeah; it's spots like this that make the logic breaks look entertaining; so it's easier to suspend my disbelief over them. Ron wants them to carry the bags and Yori calls it another American style joke as Ron has honor and carrying bags is Ron's honor. HAHA! Ron carries the bags and sulks off. HA!
So we head to Middleton School and in the chemistry lab as Kim and Monique are pouring violet chemicals into a flask together. Then the THREE BEEPS OF DOOM occur as Kim talks to Wade and Wade tells him that Yori has no school records; but a flight record indicates that they are going to South America. Kim sees something not good about this situation; and manages to pour the chemicals onto the table and then pour too much into the flask as Kim backs up and the flask explodes and the violet stuff is all over Monique's hair. Kim proclaims that Monique makes a good red haired person and Kim runs out of chemistry class while Monique screams at her. This scene would have been more effective if BS&P doesn't think that red must always equal blood. Even children can figure this one out; but BS&P seems to be stupider than they are. So we head into the South American jungle as Yori is wearing a life jacket (So we can be safe!) as Ron is stumbling with the luggage; while Yori is perfectly fine and looking at the map. Ron is wearing a blue backpack which is bigger than his body weight as it's an honor for him to drop dead; and he does exactly that and face plants into the mud and snores. HAHA! So Rufus stomps on Ron's head and there is no feeling of weight in the animation; but Ron still wakes up. Logic break #1 for the episode as Ron blows off Rufus for ruining his honor nap. HA! Yori sees something in the distance and it's a shot of a stone/wood statue carving and Ron screams that it's monkeys. And that ends the segment eight minutes in. I should point out that the commercial breaks are much more spread out evenly than the older DTVA shows; so each one is about seven to minutes long.
After the commercial break; Ron calls the statue out while doing a Ying/Yang promo and chops the statue and breaks his hand. HAHA! Ron's overselling of injuries is even more hilarious than him chopping a wooden statue. The statue tips a bit as Yori points out that we have found Monkey Fist's hideout which is a straw house on top of a tree. Yori walks as Ron raspberries the statue and the statue is all like "Screw you Ron!" and falls down and squashes Ron like my chances at a decent sex life. HAHA! So we go up into the skies as a white plane is flying and we see a white coat guy wearing ear muffs and a blue shirt flying a plane with caged chickens. Apparently; DTVA has learned nothing...AND THE ROCK SEZS NOTHING about what happened with Grumps and Recipe for Adventure from Quack Pack. Oh; and she saved his chickens from a landslide as Kim is doused with white feathers. Kim calls it no big (which is silly considering the children of today) because she has a cordless hairdryer on hand. She's wearing a helmet and a parachute pack (and her trademark spy outfit) as we get the THREE BEEPS OF DOOM (I told you to get use to this) as Wade is on the transmitter as we discover that he checked on other schools and discovers that Yori attends Yamanuchi school which is a secret school in Japan for ninja and Kim accuses Ron of crushing with a girl all this time. Wade explains that the master used a sword to create a mountain and the sword has mystical monkey powers which Ron has. And yes; this all did exist in an episode of Kim Possible before this one; so it makes sense. Maybe it's on one of the DVD's I have somewhere. It's hard to tell. Anyhow; Kim references Lord Monkey Fist and claims that Yori is working for him. Ooooookkkkaaayyyy; that sounds contrived. Wade calls it "jumping to conclusions"; but Kim calls it a theory which is jumping to a conclusion. Kim needs to work on her Science 101 some more methinks. Wade proclaims that Kim is jelling and Kim blows it off as the side door opens and Kim jumps out of the plane.
So we see various huts as the trees have monkey heads carved out of them. Ron points to them and is instantly repulsed by them. He calls them beyond wrong. This is a version of one of the best catchphrases Ron has ever made as when he sees something so disgusting in his mind; he would point to it and yell "THAT IS SICK AND WRONG!". When I was doing the DTVA/MXC crossover fanfic scripts; there was a game called Buck Off which features a bucking bull ride machine dressed up like a horny frog which is what it looks like in Takeshi's Castle which is the footage Most Extreme Elimination Challenge used (which Wipeout dead ringed on ABC much later on). I knew about this beforehand; and it makes a perfect visual for Ron Stoppable's catchphrase as seen in the fanfic script I wrote with Kim Possible's team. Anyhow; Yori tells him to be quiet and bows. Ron gets it as he must go first and he sulks stage right. HAHA! Ron and Yori climb up the tree with monkey statues on it and then they panic. Why? Did I mention the monkey statue shoot their jaws with sharp teeth on them as a booby trap? Quality trap there guys; fitting to the big booby with the naked mole rat as a pet. So Ron dodges and Yori slaps the teeth away. Okay; here's a logic break: If those teeth are "poison monkey teeth" then Yori is extremely dumb to slap them away. So Ron swings like Tarzan; but one of the jaws snap the vine and Ron slides down; dodging the jaws and then somehow manages to get his ankle snared by a vine and swing and grab Yori and help her to the front of the tree hut. Then he swings back and takes a wussy bump off the big tree. Which is apporos because Ron is such a wuss. This wasn't all that funny; and then one of jaws eats Ron's pants and underwear; right in the ass. HAHA! Now that's funny and Yori agrees with me. HAHA! Ron is not amused as we go inside the hut and there is no one there as Ron's gross factor for monkey is 11 now.
Ron tries to weasel his way out of it while failing badly to act all sad for Yori not finding Sensei; proclaiming that they will find him. Mixed messages; my name is Ron Stoppable. So Ron looks for clues and finds a piece of straw on the ground. HAHA! Even funnier; he tries to make it look like a big clue to crack the case and his Velma routine is failing so badly that it makes me laugh. We play "name the pointless clue object" for a while as Ron grabs a spider last and gets grossed out as he flies back into the cupboards and knocks them open to reveal a map to a zoo in Arizona. HAHA! Yori is loving Ron and so am I. So what if he's an idiot; it's not like we haven't seen this before in DTVA (Drake Mallard, Gusto Gummi, Gizmoduck; I'm looking at you three!). Apparently; that is where Monkey Fist is as we see Ron walk out and wonder how to get there and there is a helicopter flying above him in the skies piloted by ninjas. Ron blows this off because he wanted them around to stop the poison monkey teeth. Because dodging monkey jaw traps is honorable Ron. So we go to the scene AFTER HAPPY HOUR as Kim Possible lands by parachute in front of the hut. Wow; that had to be the longest fall in history. How did Kim stay in the air so long? Logic break #3 for the episode as Kim looks in and Ron isn't there. Wade is on the transmitter and states that Ron is in the southwestern part of the U.S.A. as Kim accuses Yori of dragging him along for the ride. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Projection much there Kim? And Wade calls her OUT on it too! AWESOME! They should have renamed her Kim Awesome because this show is all that! She's jealous as I expected her to be.
So we head to an abandoned zoo somewhere in Arizona. Yori proclaims that it's closed and Ron is pissed off because there are no Cheros (I'm guessing that is a potato chip product in this universe) at the counter. Of course not Ron; you seriously think the monster heel is going to hide in a zoo that is not out of business? So Rufus groans as Yori walks in and Ron is pissed off and has to recoil because there is still sensei to save. So we walk in for a while and there is a huge house called a Monkey House which Ron proclaims that there is a difference between a Monkey House and a Monkey Home. I would love to know the difference Ron; but Yori wants Ron to be brave because Ron has honor and Ron walks to the door and notices someone inside in a shadow. Ron proclaims that it's time for some monkey ass kicking and he runs in and we get the FCC FRIENDLY OFF-SCREEN FIGHT OF DOOM as Yori walks in and somehow; there is power in this zoo because she turns the lights on and Ron is on his belly with his hands behind his back as the monkey is...Kim Possible? Huh? Kim claims that she is saving Ron from Yori and Ron thinks Kim is freaking out which causes Kim to be flustered and acting like a jerk. Ron asks what jelling means and Kim just changes the subject. Yeap; she's jelling and it's making her look bad. Kim gets on Yori's case and Ron tries to defend her and he stammers due to the code of honor; but Yori tells Ron that he can officially blow his cover now. Kim takes that as Yori admitting her guilt that she works for lord Monkey Fist. Ron explains the situation about sensei; and Yori explains that Ron is a folk hero in these parts and Kim cannot believe it. Ron mocks Kim for being so last season and not being current enough as Ron is submitting to arrogance. Sadly; Yori cannot channel Porom's smacking upside the head routine so Rufus must clone Ron in the Monkey Kung Fu. HAHA!
So Kim is on it as Rufus walks around and steps into a panel which opens a secret passage showing a ninja wearing all black meditating. Did I mention that he's barefoot and his feet look like a legit monkey? He rises up and the babyfaces all notice that it's Lord Monkey Fist himself. Monkey Fist is considered the third main heel on the Kim Possible pecking order; next to Shego and Drakken, and he's a master of Monkey Kung Fu. His real name is Monty Fiske by the way and also knows an opposite style known as the Ax Hand. He's also the only one who sees Ron as a threat instead of a clown which are present in episodes earlier to this one. Hopefully; the OAV's shed light on those as we move along on the DVD sets. Monkey Fist is rather cool; he is sort of the ninja version of Don Karnage in some ways too. Lord Monkeyfist is voiced by Tom Kane and according to Wikipedia (DANGER! DANGER!): He is most widely known for his animation work. Notable roles are Jedi Master Yoda and Admiral Yularen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars feature film and TV series; The Chancellor in Tim Burton's 9, Magneto in Wolverine and the X-Men and Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds; Iron Man and Ultron in Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow; Mr. Herriman, the House Manager in Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends; Lord Monkey Fist on Kim Possible; Professor Utonium and Him in The Powerpuff Girls; and Darwin, Eliza's chimpanzee sidekick in The Wild Thornberrys. He is also a prominent video game voice actor, appearing on numerous titles - from bit parts, to major roles such as Gandalf and Professor Xavier, and lead characters in almost every Star Wars game ever made. In the video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed he was "on-camera" as Imperial Captain Ozzik Sturn, Lobot, and also Kento Marek, the father of the protagonist: Galen Marek (Sam Witwer) - thanks to ILM's motion capture technology. In Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty: Black Ops, he provides the voice of Takeo Masaki, a Japanese WWII soldier in the Zombies game mode.
In the arena of non-animation voiceover work, he records Movie Trailers, TV promos and commercials daily. In addition, he has been the announcer for the AFI Life Achievement Award show twice, as well as the 78th, 80th, 83rd, and 84th Academy Awards. His most recent performance was as Odin, Thor and Loki's father in the video game adaption of Thor, replacing Anthony Hopkins from the film. He started off as a voice announcer in Who's The Boss in 1992 and Wish Me Luck as Slag before focusing on voice acting in animation and video games. Buzz Lightyear of Star Command as Tech Solider is his DTVA debut. Star Wars: The Clone Wars as Yoda, The Avengers 2012 edition as Ultron, Mad as various characters and Kinect Star Wars as Yoda and C-3PO are his most recent credits. He has 152 acting credits and 17 self credits to his resume. Anyhow; the babyfaces demand to know where sensei is and Monkey Fist proclaims that he doesn't have any use for him; so why would he want to kidnap him. Ron is confused and then the wall breaks and Monkey Fist panics; accusing Ron of blowing his cover. The babyfaces are confused again as the wall crumbles and it's two gorillas in samurai gear. Oooookkkkaaaaayyyyyyy. Kim and Ron get snippy about the monkey/ape thing as a third fatass samurai warrior shows up and this one appears to be human in appearance (the face does anyway). This ends the segment 15 minutes in. It's pretty obvious who is behind this and for rant purposes; it's another Kim Possible super villain. Who is it? Read on folks...
After the commercial break; we get a shot of a waterfall and then we see a temple with a gorilla head on it and a rope bridge. So we head inside to the dungeon area as the cell door open and the two samurai gorillas bring in the babyfaces as Ron admires the skeleton chained to the wall. So they get thrown and miss hitting the wall. So Monkey Fist gets up and blames Ron for this; so Ron slaps back his hand and gets snippy about this and they look ready to fight each other. Oh; please let them fight...DAMMIT Kim! I'm starting to hate you now. Let Ron get his ass kicked and get the picture. Yeah; she broke up the fight before it even started. And here comes sensei from the shadows as we exchange notes on the situation. So sensei was trying to say that Ron is in great danger and Ron and Sensei do some hand moves to amuse each other and me. Kim not so much and Monkey Fist hates this babble and wants to get out of here. Kim agrees with Monkey Fist and the cell door opens and in comes the two samurai gorillas and DNA Samurai Hall. And yes; this mock name does make sense as you will see. She apparently uses the same voice mixer that distorts her voice like the villain of the day in Mister T: The Animated Series. Monkey Fist demands answers to why DNA Samurai Hall wants Ron and Ron and Monkey Fist smack each others hands in such a way that would make Dexter and Marduck hang their heads in shame. So this goes on for a while as DNA Samurai Hall jumps in to break it out drawing heel heat. We discover that DNA kidnapped sensei to draw Ron and Yori to believe that Monkey Fist was behind it and drew clues to find Monkey Fist which is her arch foe. Ron loves this as MF is pissed off; the samurai gorillas grab him and take him towards the cell door. DNA Samurai Hall pushes a panel out of the wall and they springs a trap door and the babyfaces get WARNERED~! HA! Then DNA Samurai Hall gets up close and personal with Monkey Fist (Monty as he's called in this case); while we cut to the babyfaces free falls and landing in a cave partially filled with water.
We go down the waterfall as Kim and Yori use their grappling hook devices (Yori has a chain whip by the way) and try to grab Ron; as Yori wins as Kim misses and gets Rufus instead. And then Kim realizes that her jelling prevented her from saving sensei as they tease his death; but the Disney Death springs it's ugly head again as sensei is floating in a lightning sphere and unharmed. This only serves to make Kim look weak; which was probably intentional anyway. So sensei bounces around in the thunder sphere and Ron blows him off for showing off. HAHA! So we scene change to the babyface walking up the stairs towards the bridge leading to the temple as Ron is still asking why they are going back since sensei is saved. Why Ron? Because the honorable thing to do is save the heel who didn't act like a heel this time around from the monster heel who is pretending to be a samurai leader? Ron still doesn't get it and I doubt even Kim can explain it to him; and sensei and Yori sound much better explaining it anyway. So we head inside a living room of the temple complete with fireplace as DNA Samurai Hall drops Monkeyfist in front of the fireplace. KF demands answers to this outrage; but get grabbed by the throat; but before DNAmy can reveal herself...POW! OUCH! Ummmm...Oh yeah; I blew her cover already. Yeah. Anyhow; here come the babyfaces and Ron proclaims that they are saving the monkey. So they are saving Fang from Dave The CLEANING BARBARIAN OF LAUGHS? Fang: (barely audible from a distance): NOT A MONKEY! Gregory: THEN STOP DOING MONKEY SPOTS! Simple really. So the gorillas run in and grab Ron which causes Rufus to flip into sensai who grabs him. Gorilla #1 roars in Ron's face; so Ron slips out of the backpack and punches the gorilla in the midsection. How dare he commit sexual battery against Baby Doll #2?! So Ron gets slapped away and saved by sensei; while Yori fights with the purple fans foils for a while.
So DNA Samurai Hall grabs Monkey Fist and sensei blocks all attacks and dodges from Gorilla #1. Which begs the question as to HOW sensei got kidnapped in the first place? Logic break #4 for the episode as he lures Gorilla #1 below a chandelier and Ron uses Rufus as a ninja star to bite through the rope and tie up the gorilla with the ring. Gorilla #1 walks a bit and then falls face down as Ron dodges Gorilla #1 after teasing that he would get squashed again; as Rufus is grabbed by sensei and they both bow to each other. So we see Yori and Kim doing handstands stage left as Ron screams and bails stage left as Gorilla #2 chases them. So Kim and Yori grab a side of a red cloth banner and it's tripping time as Ron slides underneath the banner and Gorilla #2 gets caught and tied up good. The babyfaces then notice DNA Samurai Hall with Monkey Fist as the samurai leader unmasks and it's lots of screaming. Yes folks; it's the biogentic heel herself; DNAmy Hall. Like the size of her didn't give her away already. She also likes this universe's version of Beanie Babies which are a doll version of The Wuzzles. DNAmy Hall is voiced by Melissa McCarthy and according to Wikipedia (DANGER! DANGER!): In 1997 she appeared in an episode of the NBC comedy series Jenny. From 2000 to 2003 she played supporting roles in the films Disney's The Kid, Charlie's Angels, Go, The Third Wheel and The Life of David Gale. She also did voice work in three episodes of Kim Possible, where she played DNAmy. From 2000 to 2007 she played the role of Sookie St. James, the loveable control freak and scatterbrain/klutzy best friend of Lorelai Gilmore on the The WB television series Gilmore Girls. Sookie is the executive chef at the Independence Inn and later, the co-owner and head chef at the Dragonfly Inn. In 2007, she acted opposite Ryan Reynolds in The Nines, written and directed by John August. McCarthy played Dena on the ABC sitcom Samantha Who? from 2007 to 2009. She also was a guest star in TV series Rita Rocks in 2009 and Private Practice in 2010.
In 2010, she played character roles in films The Back-Up Plan and Life as We Know It. Since 2010 McCarthy has played a leading role as Molly Flynn on the CBS hit sitcom Mike & Molly. In 2011, she received her first Emmy award[10] for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role on Mike & Molly. In 2011, McCarthy's career soared to new heights with her breakout comedic performance in the hit film Bridesmaids alongside Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper. McCarthy received critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for her performance. In June 2011, she hosted the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards.[11] She appeared as the host of Saturday Night Live on October 1, 2011. McCarthy will play a role in the sequel to Judd Apatow's film Knocked Up - This is Forty.[12] She will star in the upcoming film ID Theft with Jason Bateman.[13][14] She will also star in the upcoming film Tammy.[15] McCarthy is also the author and producer of an upcoming CBS pilot.[16] She started on the Jenny McCarthy show as Melissa. Kim Possible is her only DTVA appearance. Tammy, The Hangover Part III, The Heat and ID Thief are her most recent credits and all of them are coming in 2013. She has 36 acting credits, two producer credits (Tammy), 1 production credit (The Weird Al Show), and 27 self credits to her resume. She wears glasses; has black hair and is fat. Basically; the more tolerable version of Monteray Jack is she were a heel. Monkey Fist screams like a girl and Ron calls this beyond sick and wrong. It's wrong sick according to Ron. HAHA! Kim's eyes look like she has been taking notes of Rebecca's reaction in Sheepskin Deep where Baloo proclaims and I quote: "Me? I'm as innocent as a school boy!" Priceless. We discover that she biomerged herself with a gorilla; thus justifying Ron Stoppable's reaction to it without fail.
The babyface point out that Monkey Fist has a date with her and Monkey Fist blows it off calling it a professional relationship. Boy; Monkey Fist cannot even lie good to save himself. DNAmy hugs and crushes MF's chest as she proclaims that he doesn't really mean it. Ummm; he does mean it DNAmy; it's just that no one cares because you are both the Steelbeak/Ammonia Pine relationship couple if you catch my drift. HEE HEE! Monkey Fist hides behind the babyfaces; but even the babyfaces aren't going to deny DNAmy her new Cuddley Buddy and DNAmy chases Monkey Fist out of the temple and that is that. Yeap; that was the finish folks. So we head outside as the babyfaces wrap this one up. Yori and sensei thank Kim and Kim apologizes to Yori for acting so harsh on her and Yori is forgiving and then kisses Ron on the cheek. Ron calls it a goodbye kiss; and Yori calls that American Misunderstanding as a ninja helicopter arrives and sensei and Yori leave with the helicopter back to the school in Japan. Kim proclaims that Ron has no understanding of girls and Ron goes on a rant about that and how they should make it easier. Memo to Ron: Men have been acting like know it all's since the dawn of time and females think that being complex is a test to see if the man is a fake know it all. At least Ron is honest about not understanding girls. Kim is dumbfounded as Monkey Fist pleads for help; but here comes DNAmy and they chase on the rope bridge and go out of sight. Sadly; Debbie Station didn't appear in this episode at all; but she is getting a tribute here anyway so Debbi Station is voiced by Liza Jacqueline who has only nine credits to her resume total; including Kim Possible as her only DTVA appearance. They are: Outlanders is her acting debut in 1986 (!!); then Magical Doremai as Caitlyn, Yu-Gi-Oh GX as additional voices, Teen Titans as additional voices, Sonic Riders as Omochao, G.I. Joe: Sigma Six as Jinx, Winx Club as Bloom and TMNT 4Kids edition as Renet in 2009. That's it. Ron wants to go home and Kim proclaims that she has a way; but Ron has to be honorable and they walk away from the temple on the bridge to end the episode at 22:17. Unlike the first episode which only had a scrolling black background screen with white letters used to show the credits; this one features the normal ED showing Kim Possible asking for the sitch against a green target and a blue background. Funny episode; but some logic breaks and Kim Possible's sudden jelling didn't make me feel good about Kim Possible at this point. And the sensei was mostly a prop just for the chaos of DNAmy and Monkeyfist; along with Ron being Ron. *** 1/2 (70%).
Bonus Rant - Could It Be: More Christy Romano singing as we get a director shot of the crew prepping Christy before they leave and let Christy sing. Like the first song; lots of footage from the show is used and Christy still sings better than most teens in new Disney; sweetener be damned. Christy has to sing while a photographer in a blue shirt is getting in the way instead of doing his job like he is supposed to. Christy sings in a wooden chair! Wearing a finger-less purple mitten! The footage is from So The Drama by the way as the photographer and Christy make up in the most asexual way possible which is to look at pictures of Christy as we circle fade out. ** 3/4. Mostly because the music video was nothing of note. The singing was the main event here; along with the preview of the "series finale".
Bonus Rant #2 - Get Your Shine On: Ooooooooooohhhhhh! This music video is not from Christy Romano; it's some jabroni named Jesse McCartney from his album Beautiful Soul. Pffffftttt. Whatever. Lots of hand clapping (without hands actually clapping); a keyboarder, electric guitar, dancing and solid color background. It's not a good start when banana yellow is the first color of choice. And footage of Kim Possible kicking ass from So The Drama too is used. Jesse is okay; I guess as your "auto tune" music performer, but Christy mauls him good quality wise. Mostly because she's singing about the Kim/Ron relationship; which I do care about almost as much as the relationships on TaleSpin. Almost. So this is **.
Bonus Rant #3: Deleted Scenes From So The Drama: Yeah; I'm including them here; so shoot me. First one is Ten Times Better which is 15 seconds long. Despite having voice acting; there is no background music; nor sound effects in either deleted scene (watch Rufus eat in the second one; there is no sound effects at all there). #1 is basically Kim packing up for school and coming down to the door to greet Ron who both are late for school Ron offers to drive Kim to school; so he drives a slow scooter on the pavement which is so slow; even the kid biker next to him is pedaling faster than Ron is driving. Ron: Ten Times Faster Than My Old Scooter. Yep! Yep! HAHA! The second one is almost a minute long as we head to Middleton School and this one sadly doesn't have the sign of the day. Basically we are in the lunch room as Ron is protesting the food and demands answers from the chef as the lunch lady stares at him for a while with the ladle. Kim tells Ron to get a salad; but Ron blows her off because he doesn't surrender for a salad. So Bonnie cuts in as she pre-ordered a decent meal with devil eggs on it. Kim gets snippy on that and Bonnie and Kim argue for a bit as Ron defends Kim; but Bonnie proclaims that she doesn't care. Kim blows Bonnie off because Peking is a duck and Beijing is a city. Memo to Kim: Peking is a romanized version of Beijing; so Bonnie is correct here. Ron and Kim walk towards the table as Ron proclaims that Kim should kick Bonnie's biscuits; which is a nice way of Ron wanting to see Bonnie's ass. Kim refuses because kicking Shego's ass is good because Shego is a tyrant (rule the world evil) while Bonnie is simply a bully (high school evil). Okay; good to know Kim. The first one is funny; the second one is filler.
THE REVIEW LINE
Well; that was shorter than I expected it to be. As for the episode itself; it was good; but not great. The whole sensei kidnapping angle was dumb because sensei proved that he could have escaped anytime he wanted too (thunder sphere shield, kung fu moves etc.) and became a prop for the chaos between Ron, Kim, Yori, Monkey Fist and DNAmy. Kim's routine of jealousy just doesn't work with Kim here because it doesn't have a lot of jell and chemistry to work when we already know that Ron is not loving Yori. The build up was good, the Yori/Ron scenes were funny, and the finish was belly laughing funny with the samurai gorillas being part of a devious experiment from DNAmy. I like both MF and DNAmy; they have the Ammonia Pine/Steelbeak crush angle; only Monkey Fist is much better and more interesting as a character than Steelbeak ever could be. Overall; this was a good episode; but nothing truly outstanding and Kim for once looked a little bit like a jerk here. Otherwise; it makes me a happy ranter. So next up is The Secret Files which is the first OAV which is a collection of three episode and CGI Naked Mole Rat Rufus. Killer Robot Girlfriends! More DNAmy at a ski trip! And Monique and Ron as science partners while DNAmy teams with Drakken and a komdo dragon! Oh joy! I told you this was a great show! So....
Thumbs in the middle for this episode and I'll see you all next time.
