Nintendo Switch Sales Report

(Note: I will no longer be updating sales figures by quarter for Nintendo Switch anymore. I plan to reduce this to either twice a year or once a year. The Nintendo Switch 2 will be added separately by August of 2026.)
Sources are from Nintendo's internal figures as of December 31st, 2025 and for some updated figures, the CESA White Papers for 2022 as of December 31st, 2022. (Context: Nintendo Switch is roughly 8 3/4 years old at this point.):

Switch hardware has sold 155.37 million units globally, surpassing
Nintendo DS for the highest selling system in Nintendo history and
second overall.
- In Japan, Nintendo Switch officially surpassed
Gameboy/Gameboy Color combination and Nintendo DS for highest selling
system at 38.14 million units.
- In the Americas, Nintendo Switch
has officially passed PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS for highest
selling system at 59.45 million units.
- Europe is at 39.91
million units with the overrun at 17.87 million units.
- Switch is
the second fastest selling system to surpass one hundred million
units in hardware and the only the second to pull off the feat within
five years, only Nintendo DS pull it off faster by roughly six
months. Due to the hybrid nature of the system, this also means
Switch is the first console to pull off the feat within five years.

Switch has 1.50016 billion units of software. This surpasses Wii,
Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, XBOX 360 and technically PlayStation 4
for second place overall. (Caveat:
If
you discount the PlayStation 2 sell-in overrun of 297.50 million
units sold between April 1st, 2007 to March 31st, 2012; Nintendo
Switch software sales would have surpassed PlayStation 2 for first
place (1.24 billion units). PlayStation 2's software figures are at
maximum 1.53700 billion units when the overrun is included. If
digital download only games are counted, it's likely Nintendo Switch
1 has surpassed PlayStation 2.)

does not include download only games.
(Context:
Nintendo
only counts retail only and games that offer the choice of buying
retail or digital. Sony DOES count download only games for
PlayStation 4 and Playstation 5. Thank to Paul Gale Network for

The games per hardware tie ratio is 9.65. That is the highest in
Nintendo history, ahead of Gamecube's 9.59. It is also the fifth
highest in console history, behind PlayStation 4 (12.11), PlayStation
3 (11.43), XBOX 360 (11.76) and XBOX (11.01).
- There are 111
known one million unit sellers on Switch, the first Nintendo platform
to achieve the feat and only the third system -- outside of PC and
Mobile -- with PlayStation 1 (127) and PlayStation 2 (167) overall.
