Twenty Years Of Muddy Puddles: Peppa Pig Series One #4 Rant

A Sleepy Uncle Pig Arrives!
Okay fans; I have now decided to rant on this series full time, because I do in fact like this show enough that I can handle the best and worst of the Pig family from Great Britian. We head back to Series One as we deal with thunder showers, clean up the car, have lunch, go camping, sleep with a princess who is sleepy, make a treehouse, have a dressing up party, go to a museum, suffer from a heatwave and finally go to Cousin Chole's house to meet the debuting Uncle Pig! So, let's rant on shall we..?!
All the episodes are done by Neville Astley and Mark Baker. Animation is done by Astely Baker Davies animation; with the two mentioned creators and Phil Davies.
Thunderstorm: Okay; here is episode #32 on the animation paper and we begin with the house on the hill complete with drum banging! (2024 Gregory Weagle Says: An ominous sign of danger is upon us in the Peppa Pig World.) Peppa and George come out with their play toys, a checkered purple/white blanket, a plate with two cookies on it, two colored teacups and a purple tea kettle. Oh; and they are having a shoot picnic with orange juice in the tea kettle, which Peppa pours out. Even then; Peppa is acting with Teddy to make this work. Mr. Dinesaur gets orange juice poured into a teacup and the Mr. Dinesaur responds like it always does. I love how Peppa cosplays her Teddy into allowing Peppa and George to eat the cookies; which they proceed to do. (Grrr translates to "thank you" in Peppa's eyes. Good to know.) We hear thunder in the background and then zoom out complete with drum banging. Geez; I thought the underscore of this wasn't this overbearing! Some dark clouds show up as we cut to the back door with Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig at the door. Mummy Pig tells the kids to come up right now and the kids sell; but Peppa forgets her Teddy which she drops onto the ground. This sadly will become a running gag in future episode and I believe this was the debut of the running gag actually. (Yup, and it sort of continues to this day. Teddy is a naughty plush toy and the latest Peppa Pig Tales features him in balloon form because that episode was a stop motion episode with LEGO Duplo blocks. While this has been done before by the fanbase, it usually not done by the official creators.) Peppa asks what is going on and they need to get in because a vicious thunderstorm is coming. Sounds reasonable to me; but Daddy Pig insists that the rain isn't the problem. He's right of course; but they all go inside anyway. The skies get darker and noiser as we head to Peppa's bedroom as Mummy Pig asks about bringing their toys in as George shows off his dinosaur and growls. Peppa then realizes that she unintentionally left Teddy in the garden. At the time; this was unintentional. In later episodes, it became questionable. Daddy Pig tells her not to worry because he'll find it. Mummy Pig tells Daddy to hurry up; but Daddy Pig blows it off because it won't rain for ages. (Daddy Pig is so dumb, he's daring this reality to screw him over like a torture god would. What a glutton for punishment Daddy Pig is?!) Daddy Pig walks down the hill and grabs Teddy in the garden. Now; if I wanted to make a funny joke about this, I would book it as: Daddy Pig slowly walks back toward the back door and thinks he has proven Mummy Pig wrong; and then he's two feet away from the door...and then it pours down raining. That would have been a funny joke.
Instead; when he grabs the Teddy, he proclaims that there is lots of time, and then it pours down raining. This reduces the giggles of the joke because we are supposed to believe that maybe Daddy Pig could be right and then be proven wrong. When you do it halfway, you kill the effectiveness of the gag. He has to run into the house and he's wet; and now I feel bad for him because he's cold and wet. (That's the problem with doing it halfway: You are not suppose to feel sorry for Daddy Pig being dumb, and yet I feel bad for him now because the gag was paid off way too quickly.) Plus; in the next scene as he comes into the bedroom soaking wet, Teddy doesn't look all wet and yet Mummy Pig towels Teddy off with a purple towel. Daddy Pig is shivering. Peppa likes this as Daddy Pig is protesting this outrage. Daddy's wetter than Teddy for Peppa's sakes! (To be fair, Daddy Pig was dumb enough to walk to Teddy, so I shouldn't feel bad when he becomes drowned ham so to speak.) Thankfully; the family gets it and writes in more towels by teleport before drying off Daddy Pig who giggles. (I love this gag and I'm surprised that they didn't run this gag into the ground in later seasons because it never ceased to be funny.) Then the roof begins to leak and everyone panics. Daddy Pig returns with a bucket to contain the first leak; but gets dropped in the head with a second rain drop, ala Kit Cloudkicker from I Only Have Ice For You. Peppa brings in the tea kettle and use it to catch the rain. Jump cut to outside as the thunderstorm continues and back in; the bucket, kettle and leaks have disappeared. How about that?! (Well, the towels are written in and the catchers are written out by teleport. As Suzy would say: "It's magic!". As Daddy Pig would say "yes".) Peppa and George hug Mummy Pig; because the thunder is so intense, the power has been cut. Peppa calls them thunder bangs as Daddy tells them not to worry as we do the education moment of the episode: counting the time between the flash of light and the rumble sound to determine how far the storm is. They do this twice, the first time is three and the second is five as the rain stops on cue and therefore the thunderstorm is leaving. Literally three seconds later after that; it's sunny and everyone leaves the house through the back door wearing their boots. If you cannot guess the final spot right now...you guessed it. Everyone pops as they go down the hill; because George and Peppa are jumping in, out, up and down in muddy puddles in the garden. Mummy and Daddy Pig join in for the earthquake ritual again; as then they stop as Peppa cuts a promo praising the thunderstorm for this and then they continue on jumping. Yeah; that ends the episode at 4:30 approx. This was fun; but mistakes were made. ** 1/2 (50%).
Cleaning The Car: Here is episode #33 on the animation paper as it's a sunny day at the house on the hill to open this episode. Zoom in to the back door as it opens and out comes Mummy Pig, George and Peppa as they run down the hill. At the bottom of the hill is Daddy Pig in the red car which apparently has been in a muddy puddle auto race as of late. Everyone is ready, except for the car even though the car is running smoothly. Because you see; the car is exceptionally muddy and so they cannot drive around the countryside with it. (Apparently, a muddy car is taboo in this show. In Nova Scotia, it would be a normal Saturday day after going into the muddy roads.) Daddy Pig stops the car and goes out to check it and claims that it's not bad at all. Yeah; I've seen worse quality cars than this, most have scratches and dents on them. Mud is nothing and the car still runs well in spite of it. Yes, Mummy Pig is all hot and bothered about the appearance of a car. She's even more pissed off as she inspects the inside of the car as it has crumbly newspaper pages, a bag of candy (Wait; what's wrong with an unopened bag of sweets, Mummy Pig?!) and Mr. Dinesaur (Wait; what's wrong with that, Mummy Pig? George ALWAYS brings that thing to car rides.). Naughty, silly, Daddy Pig~ must clean the car before it leaves. (To be fair, the windows do need cleaning for obvious safety reasons, thus an outside washing would do the car some good, but the inside?! Sod off Mummy Pig!) Daddy isn't amused; but agrees to it as Peppa wants to help. (Hey, I'll give them credit: At least Peppa was willing to help clean the car and didn't whine once about it. Good!) Mummy Pig agrees to it and Peppa cheers on cue. Jump cut to Daddy Pig filling a bucket of water from the out of nowhere faucet near the back door of the house. Wait; I'm pretty certain that warm soapy water is impossible by just running the tap there, Mr. Narrator! Out comes the out of nowhere sponges as we wash the car for a while. In Britian, the front of the car is called the bonnet. George cannot reach the windows and is not happy; but no actual bawling his eyes out are present. Mummy helps him wipe the glass window; but leave one mud stain on the window which apparently teleports from the car onto the ground as a muddy puddle. (See, magic! Suzy Sheep wasn't wrong.)
George drops the sponge into the muddy puddle. Yes; they created a logic break just to do a spot where George unintentionally muddies the car again! Then a bucket of water comes out of nowhere to allow George to put the sponge into it to clean up. No one in creative thought this sequence through at all. (You do realize that the creators have a backup excuse for it: It's magic! It's not like they are hiding it or anything.) George cleans the sponge in the water bucket as Peppa wants to wash the car, so she takes the bucket of muddy water. Daddy Pig tries to protest this; but Peppa don't care as she throws mud and water onto the car. Peppa Pig is a troll! Now the car has more mud than it did BEFORE they cleaned it! (You cannot blame Daddy Pig for that one.) Daddy Pig shrugs it off and goes back to the faucet to attach a yellow rubber hose to it and Peppa wants to help on that. Peppa holds the end of the hose and runs down the hill. Somehow; the hose is long enough despite looking like it was going to come off the faucet end at any moment. Daddy Pig turns on the water, Peppa Pig is so inpatient that she looks into the hose and gets sprayed in the face with it. HAHA! The troll just trolled herself! I should also note that the sound effects they used here sounded like someone flushing a toilet. He regains control and Mummy Pig gets splooshed as a result as the water has become a troll. HAHA! (The sound effects were funny, and Peppa trolling on her mother was hilarious because Peppa wasn't intentionally doing it. Peppa overestimated herself and became a geek on a show where she's the star and everyone else is a geek! This is why I perfer to watch this over Chargeman Ken or read the Holy Bible: Peppa is at least willing to put her geeks over, even when she's overwhelming them in star power.) Peppa turns the hose up into the air and the water rains down on everyone now as Mummy Pig is yelling at Daddy Pig to turn off the water and he does. Everyone is wet; but the car is officially clean now. The kids and Mummy shake the water off as I should note that they changed into their boots in between the jump cut from the muddy car to Daddy Pig pouring water into the bucket in case anyone thought I missed that. I almost did.
The kids and Mummy Pig go back into the house while Daddy Pig polishes the car and it magically is so beautiful that Daddy Pig can see his own reflection in it. Daddy Pig makes a funny face and in comes Peppa and George making funny faces. Mummy Pig comes in and they all giggle for a while. Daddy Pig cuts his usual "I'm a bit of an expert at these things" promo and this one at least made sense. (Sadly, they didn't do the drying spot with towels on everyone. That never grows old with me.) Everyone gets into the car and Mummy Pig will drive the car. I guess Daddy Pig has been grounded from driving the car for messing up the car in the first place with the newspapers inside the car. Mummy Pig drives the car stage left as Mummy Pig orders them to keep the car clean and the kids and Daddy Pig obey her. And then the ultimate in total subterfuge occurs: A muddy puddle is in the middle of the road. (A puddle so big that Mummy Pig could not stop herself. She couldn't go off the side of the road to dodge. But, everyone watching this is now aware of how cruel and unfair life is...) Mummy Pig drives the car at full speed into the goddamn muddy puddle and gets the car completely muddy once again. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (See, Daddy Pig got the last laugh on everyone, twice! It'll keep going on in Swimming.) Daddy Pig and Peppa Pig taunt Mummy Pig for this as Mummy Pig looks embarrassed as the other family members laugh to end the episode at 4:30 approx. Everyone trolled on everyone tonight and the finish was glorious. *** 1/2 (70%).
Lunch: Here is episode #34 on the animation paper and this episode opens up on the white house on the hill as Grandma Pig is waiting for someone at the door. Here comes the Pig family's car as the car parks on the steepest side of the hill...AGAIN! Everyone gets out as the narrator tells us that the entire family is here for lunch. We meet and greet as George calls her "Granny Ig"...AGAIN! Grandma Pig asks if the kids would like to help Grandpa Pig with picking the veggies, they agree to it and run down the hill. Cut to Grandpa Pig watering his lettuce. George has Mr. Dinesaur growling for us as Grandpa Pig is impressed by this. Peppa has the basket and they are picking veggies like tomatoes, lettuce and cucumber and Peppa likes the veggies, but George is all "NO" when it comes to the veggies. He is all "yuck" on cucumbers, and how dare he?! Cucumbers are really tasty. (Damn, my respect for George Pig has gone down about three notches. I love cucumbers! Even with the skins on! The fact that Peppa Pig seems to like them makes me respect Peppa just a bit more now.) Grandpa Pig asks what veggie does George like and George proclaims that he loves chocolate cake. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (This is the same George Pig who planted his own toy dinosaur into the soil in a previous episode on this show!) Should have seen that coming a mile away. Peppa rightfully calls George out on that one as everyone goes into the house because maybe George will like them in a salad. I betcha George's response to that would also be "no". Head into the kitchen as the basket is handed to Grandma Pig and Grandma Pig puts the veggies into the sink. Grandma Pig fills the sink with water as George Peppa dunk the veggies like they jump up and down in muddy puddles as water sprays everywhere. (George doesn't mind cleaning the veggies, he doesn't like eating them. That's an odd trait there since it's often the person who hates eating veggie wants absolutely no part of them.) Somehow; nothing gets wet in this sequence as they stop and we jump cut to Grandma Pig at the table cutting up veggies on a cutting board and putting them into the bowl. Grandma Pig calls for everyone to come to lunch as Grandpa Pig rings the bell and we jump cut to everyone sitting down at the table with four glasses of wine, two glasses of lemonade, six slices of pizza, six forks, six plates and a bowl of salad at the end of the table.
Grandma Pig spoons salad on George's plate, burying it underneath the pizza, which doesn't amuse either me nor George. (This spot actually pissed me off. Putting the salad on the plate on it's own is fine; but to bury it underneath the pizza sends a message that she wants George to eat the salad forcefully. That's a bad idea. Don't bury the pizza if you want to introduce the salad, and if he doesn't eat it, then he doesn't eat it. That was an assholish thing for Granny Pig to do.) Everyone eats the pizza first, within four bites or so. Peppa eats her veggies in less than four bites. George takes off the veggies and puts them on the table. Yes; George is not fooled by this salad angle either. So, the adults start trying to force the issue with the salad pieces, we get two yucks and and George bawls his eyes out in frustration. Oh; for Peppa sakes, people; this is totally ineffective and it is only making George hate you even more for lying to him about the salad being not veggie-related. (As much as I lost a bit of respect for George not liking cucumbers, this is not how to change George's mind. I'm just saying, show.) Grandpa Pig then has an idea as he takes the pieces and makes them into a dinosaur. If he loves dinosaurs; wouldn't he reject the veggie dinosaur?! George likes it and he eats the veggie dinosaur. If he loves dinosaurs like a pet; isn't this murder?! (Okay, making the salad look like a dinosaur isn't a bad move, but after basically trying to force him to eat veggies, why would I trust them?! There's a reason why I gave this episode a thumbs down.) Anyhow; George claims that he's too full for veggies or anything right now...until Grandma Pig brings out the chocolate cake. Then George changes his mind, just like that. Dammit! George gets cake and eats it too. Grandpa Pig claims that he got his appetite back and everyone laughs to end the episode at 4:30 approx. Started off good and then went downhill due to the way they were trying to feed George. ** 1/4 (45%).
Camping: This episode is #35 on the animation paper and we begin this one on the most boring road they could find as the red car containing the Pig family inside as Daddy Pig is driving and loving camping. On top of the roof of the car; there is a picnic basket, luggage and the tent itself. They stop in the thinest forest they could find on a hill; at least this time, they stopped on the hill top itself. Peppa and George run down the hill through the forest and find the spot. In comes Mummy and Daddy Pig as Daddy Pig has the Gedo fashion sense tent of doom. (The old banana yellow scheme, which Gedo loved as a wrestler and it made him stand out if nothing else. Gedo is not a bad performer nor wrestler, but he's just overwhelmed by much better workers.) Daddy shakes the contents out of the tent lining as Peppa questions this making of a tent. Daddy claims that he's an expert on camping; so he's the SPORTSMAN OF MAN today; only without 99.5% of the toxic thinking that goes into it; which is perfect, thank you. (Honestly, I would rather have Daddy Pig be the Sportsman of Man than Drake Mallard. A lot less full of himself promos and when Daddy Pig is REALLY STUPID, it has more impact because at least the writers refrain from going to the well way too many times.) Mummy throws the tent on the poles and it turns into a tent. Heh. And then Daddy Pig proclaims that it's easy as pie...and then it sags right on cue. HAHA! Mummy Pig notices the pegs and asks if they do anything and Daddy Pig notices that they do and they pull the string back and nail the pegs down with a wooden hammer out of nowhere. The yellow tent is little; and Daddy claims that it was big enough for him when he was a little kid; prompting Mummy Pig to subtley point out that he's grown. Peppa is a lot less subtle with this, basically pointing out that he is too fat in a nice way; which is another thing moral guardians hate about this show. Maybe if they weren't sexist cowards; I would care about Daddy's Pig unheathly mass of tummy. Daddy still don't care; because it's supper time as George and Peppa are giddy. We get a sequence of Peppa, George and Daddy Pig collecting sticks. Peppa is tossing a large pile of sticks onto George who is just standing there holding them, like a fool. (George is Kit Cloudkicker, and Peppa is Baloo; who by the way is as big as Daddy Pig. Irony!)
Thankfully; Daddy comes in and that's enough sticks for the campfire as we jump cut to a close up shot of the stick being put into a tent formation. Daddy Pig wants to light the fire right now as we zoom out to see the Pig family. Then we get a BS&P spot: Mummy Pig literally brings out a box of matches; but Daddy Pig blows them off because they don't need those matches. I wish he talked into the hard camera and said, "the moral guardians are watching"; but that doesn't happen. Of course no matches will be used; because the second they do that spot, angry parents will be demanding that this show be banned for being irresponsible, because someone played with matches and then claim they watched Peppa Pig. Also, that would be a lot more irresponsible than Mister Skinnylegs, actually. Personally; I was hoping they would use the matches, just for me to get a cheap shot in on Toon Disney constantly editing out matches in TaleSpin, and often in a laughable manner. (By the way, remember the Castle from Series 5 where Miss Rabbit controlled a robot dragon that blew the budget on the whole site and Mr. Rabbit literally striking a match and lighting a cannon on pre-school television. A spot that Disney would removed in a show for 6-18 year olds?! Gregory Weagle certainly remembers. Even Pepperidge Farms forgot that and that's MY gimmick!) It's already HAPPY HOUR as Daddy Pig wants to do it with two sticks rubbing together; which is basically the same thing as using matches, I should note. However; since it's much harder for a child to make a fire from rubbing two sticks together, this is often allowed in a pre-school show. This goes on for a long ass whomping time and the longer it goes, the blushier Daddy Pig gets. That was at least funny. He blows and a small red flame come out of the sticks and he drops the sticks to make the campfire and everyone pops for him. Easy as blushing pie, methinks. Mummy Pig puts the pot of tomato soup onto the campfire as we listen to crickets chriping, so yes; even this show is mocking moral guardians in calling this crowd dead. That was funny in fact. An owl hoos as Daddy and Mummy explain the sounds to a confused and somewhat frightened Peppa. We see the most circular owl in cartoon kind in a closeup shot of a tree; as Peppa and George are in awe.
Then we hear the rumbling sounds of Daddy's big tummy again, which is just like mine, complete with water splashing sound effects. I do like the realism of this show, actually. It's time to eat tomato soup in bowls for fun; which is the most unusal camp food I have ever heard. Yes; they are literally drinking out of the bowl while it's still piping hot. Daddy Pig is really enjoying his guzzling down soup and he burps violently, for favorite sound number three, I bet. Daddy Pig is confused, everyone is laughing at him as it's now time to get into the tent. Peppa is questioning this because it's too little and when she was talking about it being too little, she meant everyone, including Daddy Pig. Daddy Pig claims that everything is fine. Peppa and George get in just fine; but Mummy Pig struggles to fit in, but she does. Then it's Daddy Pig's turn and his face cannot even fit in the tent; because he's just too big. Even if he wasn't big; Mummy Pig is too big to allow Daddy Pig to come in. Daddy Pig has to sleep under the stars tonight. Poor Daddy Pig; I betcha he likes this and then it rains hard on him. I check the video...Damn; I'm good. I've seen this episode long before I ranted on it, so I saw this coming a mile today. The best part of this is; the crescent moon and stars are still there when the rain effects start pouring in. This is the first ever starshower/moonshower in the history of this show. It's so lazy; but so hilarious at the same time. I'm glad they didn't edit the moon and stars out during this scene. Daddy Pig is not liking this and he shivers in a contrived way. Scene change to morning as the tent is opened and out comes Mummy, George and Peppa as they notice that Daddy Pig is not here. A cock crows during this (Rooster in case anyone gets any ideas.). It's also sunny and apparently, this got rid of any hope that we would see Daddy Pig sleeping in a muddy puddle. Which would have been a great finish; but that's not what happened. Mummy Pig is concerned for his well being because it fucking rained hard last night. However; we hear snoring and the family runs up to the hill and inside the car is Daddy Pig snoring. The window is rolled down as Daddy declares himself an expert at camping. Well; he was resourceful, I'll grant him that. Peppa calls Daddy silly as Daddy lies back down claiming that he loves camping as he laughs. Everyone laughs and does the backsplash laugh to end the episode at 4:30 approx. (Daddy Pig was already on his back when he started laughing, so the backsplash laugh was already in effect.) I wish they did the finish I wanted them to do here; but this was really fun. *** 1/2 (70%).
The Sleepy Princess: Next up is episode #36 on the animation paper and we begin this episode on the house on the hill AFTER HAPPY HOUR as we zoom into Peppa's bedroom complete with cricket chrips. Peppa and George run in and climb into their beds. The adults come in and Peppa is not sleepy. I'm kind of disappointed because I wanted to see some mind games played on Mummy and Daddy Pig like in Babysitting. Peppa wants a story and Daddy Pig thinks George doesn't want one. Peppa telling George to say "yes" for the story is violating informed consent in my view; not that they can give consent anyway. George snorts twice; which means yes. That shouldn't count. If he said "dinesaur", then maybe he meant yes. Wait; what am I saying?! Daddy Pig finds a chair and sits down on it as he'll tell one story and Mummy Pig adds the stipulation that they must fall asleep after said story. Daddy Pig is going to tell the story of the sleepy princess, in which Peppa calls it boring. Wait; if it's boring, shouldn't it make you go to sleep?! Daddy Pig says it's not boring, so goodbye to any hopes Peppa will sleep. (Yeah, GEEK!) Peppa asks if a princess is involved. Mummy Pig tells her to let Daddy Pig tell the story. Never mind that in the title; it's called "Sleepy Princess". Peppa seriously thinks that this title is false on it's ear. Does she seriously believe that the title is a rib on her?! Oh; and Peppa completely ignores Mummy Pig and asks again, Daddy Pig states yes. George don't care either way as everyone is tucked in and Daddy Pig slowly begins the story. We hit the dream sequence and head to the really generic castle of doom on the hill. (So generic that there are no crosses on it. Not that I want to see those ever again in a children's cartoon, but Peppa Pig wasn't afraid to show crosses on castles if need be.) We have some trees with flowers on them. Head to the eastern rampart as Princess Peppa is looking outside, as she is the sleepy princess in this story. Peppa does her classic cutting off the story teller stuff as we see Peppa looking herself in the mirror as Daddy Pig claims she is pretty. Peppa continues to cut Daddy Pig off as the others in the castle (since Peppa asked the question) are George, Mummy and Daddy as prince, queen and king. Oh; and they literally do the royalty version of the opening sequence. This would have been funnier if they did the entire opening sequence this way; but they didn't. Sad!
Apparently; King Daddy doesn't have a big tummy, even though it's clear that King Daddy Pig does have a big tummy. Not fooling anyone. Daddy also claims that there is a dragon; which causes George to yell "dinesaur"! HAHA! And that is what we get. Works for me. In comes a purple long necked dinosaur, which doesn't look scary at all. However; Daddy Pig oversells it like mad to the point where George bawls his eyes out. See; even George has some nuance here. He likes dinosaurs, but not scary dinosaurs. That's a small bit of character development that gives George something a little more than just a gimmick. Mummy Pig thinks that was dumb as Daddy Pig tucks George in and apologizes for that gaffe. The dinosaur eats a lot of grass and it burps. Of course! Also, Daddy Pig does it, too! HAHA! Mummy Pig was graverly offended by this moment. She couldn't believe Daddy Pig burped in front of her. How could Daddy Pig be so mean and cruel?! (By the way, when Daddy Pig burped at the three minute mark, the clock reads 7:15 PM, so one minute in real time is five minutes in Peppa Pig's world. Just so you would like to know.) Daddy Pig apologizes and confesses; this causes everyone to giggle. Peppa still wants to know why it's called the sleepy princess and we see the castle shot again as day turned into night and the dinosaur is yawning, the king, queen and prince are yawning. The princess looking into the mirror is yawning and we cut back to Peppa teasing that she is asleep as Daddy Pig asks loudly and Peppa wakes up denying that she is asleep. However; George is snoring and fast asleep. I guess if the dinosaur in the story sleeps; he must sleep, too. (Sounds reasonable to me.) So; then Peppa yells at George and George wakes up. What a troll?! Let George sleep, for Peppa's sakes, Peppa! So we have to finish the story as the sleepy princess is completely worn out and King Daddy puts Princess Peppa into a golden royal bed and she snores away as King Daddy leaves. We end the story with a zoom out shot of the castle and that is that. George and Peppa are snoring in their beds as Daddy and Mummy Pig back up and turn out the light fully to end the episode at 4:30 approx. This was okay; although Peppa yelling at George was a low point for Peppa in the early episodes of this series. ** 3/4 (55%). (It took the family thirty minutes to get them asleep in a four and a half minute episode, so the next fifteen minutes in Peppa Pig time was literally half of the first fifteen minutes! Suzy Sheep: It's magic!)
The Treehouse: Here is episode #37 on the animation paper as we head to the white house on the hill as the red car arrives with the Pig family. At least they didn't park on the steepest side of the slope this time around. The family has their boots on, which is a clear sign that a muddy puddle will be involved at some point. Why did they go to the back door to knock?! Anyhow; Grandma Pig answers the door and George still calls her "Ganny Ig" at this point. Grandma tells them they can come inside as long as they take off their muddy boots. Which have no mud on them. They take off their boots anyway and come inside to the sitting room where Grandma Pig shows off some purple hearted curtains which Peppa is in awe with. (By the way, they leave their muddy boots outside that are not muddy and this tradition was responsible for The Golden Boots happening.) Peppa asks what the curtains are for and Grandma Pig tells them that it's a surprise. They are part of something Grandpa Pig has built in the garden and everyone runs out and puts on their boots again. Cut to Grandpa Pig making what appears to be the roof of a giant doll house. In comes the kids as George calls him "Papa Ig" again. Grandpa's hammer is written out via teleport as he simply puts the roof on the tree house. On a giant branch that is literally two feet off the ground. Or at the biggest point of Grandpa Pig's belly. The curtains are placed in the treehouse attached to the top frame of a window and the kids all cheer. Lots of cheers and thank yous from Peppa as we get three snorts in three seconds. Grandpa Pig asks who wants to go first and Peppa instantly climbs the ladder and flicks off her boots -- which have no mud on them -- onto the ground and goes into the treehouse. She opens the curtains inside said treehouse and declares that she is in the treehouse. Peppa closes the curtains as George snorts twice because he wants to be in the treehouse. Daddy Pig knocks on the door and Peppa opens the curtians again. Daddy asks if George can come into the treehouse and Peppa will accept it as long as he takes off the muddy boots. George flicks off his boots -- which have no mud on them -- and knocks on the door. Peppa opens the curtains, George snorts, Peppa opens the door and lets George in. George comes in and they giggle and snort.
Mummy Pig knocks on the door and Mummy Pig wants to go in on the fun. Ummm; I think this treehouse can only handle kids five years and under. (Turns out that the treehouse does have TARDIS powers, sort of.) Peppa proclaims that Mummy Pig has to say the secret word. Mummy Pig asks what this secret word is and Peppa opens the word and whisper yells into Mummy Pig's ear. (The music they used here is the sneaky music, so you know the secret word must be a troll move on Peppa's part.) I don't know why we had to hear that; especially when Mummy Pig has to say the password anyway. I realize that this is a pre-school show, but come on! It's okay for us not to hear the password when Peppa whispers it into her ear because Mummy Pig will still know what it is and say it anyway. You can create suspense in a pre-school show, it's okay. That's the stupid part. The password is "Daddy's Big Tummy" by the way; which is a statement of fact as much as a joke. Mummy Pig gets it and the kids all giggle. Mummy Pig knocks on the door again. Peppa tells her to say the password and Mummy Pig says "Daddy's Big Tummy"; as Daddy Pig rubs his tummy and is not amused by this. He says: "Those are soliskey (?sp) words!". I think he said it was fighting words; but there's no fighting in a pre-school show; so I'm guessing he meant insulting words. (Daddy Pig called them silly secret words. His first promo wasn't 100% clear on that sadly. Again, accents are okay as long as you can understand what they are saying. (2024 Gregory Weagle Says: I checked again and it was clear as day that he said "silly". What video made former self think otherwise?)) Everyone laughs at him anyway, and he's not thrilled by this, so Peppa intended it as an insult. Peppa Pig is a troll. Mummy Pig flicks off her boots -- which have no mud on them -- and manages to get inside the treehouse somehow. Daddy Pig wants in and politely asks for different secret words, which in sercuity of computers would make sense. Not in this show, though as Mummy, Peppa and George do George's condescending, albeit in a funny sort of way "no" promo. (The women and girls on this show are not taking crap from the man of the show today I see. Even George has no sympathy for Daddy Pig at this point.) Daddy chooses to say "Daddy's Big Tummy". Which is a true statement. (Daddy Pig is now grumpy and it's somewhat justified this time.) Daddy Pig is not amused.
Sadly; this is the least of his problems because he takes off his boots and like in the episode "Camping", he cannot get into the treehouse even if there was no one in it. Daddy pops out of the door as Peppa blames the big tummy for it. Truer words never spoken; and there was no room in the treehouse for him anyway, even if no one was in it. He's screwed. (Yeah, I don't know why they bothered with the secret word when Daddy Pig just scored an own goal on himself other than to point out how fat he is. One question to CBC Gem viewers: I know Peppa Pig Series 1 and 2 is on the service: Did they edit out any of the body shaming in the episodes?!) Everyone laughs at his expense; but Grandpa Pig has a Krackpotkin Plan: Open the roof and let Daddy Pig through it. Daddy Pig climbs into the treehouse via the roof and despite the tree branch teasing a break; it keeps up. Yes folks; they found a way to get Daddy Pig in the treehouse It's a miracle! (That tree is tougher than Steve Williams. Which one?! Doesn't matter!) The most awkward treehouse meeting in history, in my view. Peppa never wants to leave the treehouse; so Grandpa and Grandma Pig walk back to the house disappointed, because that means that they will eat the cookies all by their lonely selves and Peppa will get nothing. Peppa opens the door and climbs down the ladder, putting on her boots as we jump cut to the back door as the entire Pig family reaches the door and out comes Grandma Pig with a plate of cookies for everyone. (Good thing we didn't see the adults come out of the treehouse, that might have shown the treehouse is destroyed.) However; they must say the secret words, which are...you guessed it. Daddy Pig is not amused as everyone takes their boots off and comes inside giggling. We head into the sitting room for cookies as Daddy Pig still calls them silly secret words. Everyone giggles and that ends the episode at 4:30 approx. I rub my big tummy and may that be my catchphrase until death do me part...or until I'm down to under 200 pounds. (I'm only about 106 pounds away from that mark which is surprising to me.) Another fun episode in a series of them. (The body shaming secret word was pointless since Daddy Pig couldn't fit in the treehouse until he went through the roof, which is character development from Camping, but it's still rendered the secret word pointless. So, ** 1/2 (50%).)
Fancy Dress Party: Here is episode #38 on the animation paper as we head to the house on the hill as we head into Peppa's bedroom as Peppa Pig is jumping up and down with joy as Mummy Pig puts a crown on Peppa's head because she's a fairy princess and George is going to cosplay Mr. Dinesaur. George does his usual catchphrase as outside, we see Mummy Sheep drive up a car with Suzy Sheep dressed as a nurse, Candy Cat dressed as witch (a heel witch since she threatens to turn someone into a frog later in the episode), Danny Dog as a pirate (a sea pirate, not an air pirate, sadly), Rebecca Rabbit dressed as a carrot and Pedro Pony dressed as a clown. Yes, a clown. So, the writers are basically admitting that Pedro's role in this show is to be the butt of all jokes now when Daddy Pig isn't available. (Ironically, Daddy Pig is here in this episode. Ironically, Pedro does not have the silliest costume in this group...) Suzy rings the door bell and the door opens to reveal Daddy Pig and Daddy Pig truly believes that Suzy is a legit nurse. Yes; this is a running gag now. Daddy Pig either cannot tell the difference between real or make believe; or Daddy Pig is trolling on her. I would suggest the later in this case. Yup; he's trolling. (This kinda kills any sympathy I have when he gets offended about having a huge tummy.) The kids introduce their roles in this dress up party, Pedro Pony is of course the symbol of the cluelessness of this show sometimes. HONK! HONK! (Uh-oh! In 2020 speak, Pedro is a Nazi. Pedro is not a Nazi, but still a bad look for him in hindsight.) Yes; Pedro is in fact wearing long red clown shoes. We also begin the gimmick of Rebecca Rabbit of loving carrots so much she blushes. (While rabbits in real life don't usually eat a lot of carrots, Rebecca is half human due to anthromorpism, so she could probably handle carrots better than human beings. Just don't assume that it applies to anyone else though.) Daddy Pig is perfectly fine with that as he invites them all into the sitting room filled with balloons and lights. Peppa and George meet and greet them; well, mostly Peppa. Peppa orders Suzy to bow before her and Suzy sells it. Suzy orders Peppa to say "awww" and Peppa sells it. (I admit their trolling here was funny because they were giving and taking without a care in the world.)
Pedro is a clown and honks his clown horn; it wasn't funny. Danny asks why she is dressed like a carrot. Because she wants to and loves carrots. Why did you bother to ask her?! Danny is just doing this to make her blush and nothing else. Everyone giggles on cue and in comes George in the Mr. Dinesaur costume growling at the kids and only Danny does the unconvincing sell job as the other giggle. Peppa looks herself in the mirror; but it has nothing to do with introspection, honest! In comes Candy Cat as they exchange notes as Candy brings out her darker magic wand as Candy claims that she can turn Peppa into a frog. Peppa claims the same and Candy bails screaming stage left. Damn. (Someone grab some popcorn! We have heel witch on heel fairy crime going on here! Since this is Peppa's residence, my money is on Peppa winning that one. Just a hunch on my part.) Then we get an awesome moment: George comes in and looks in the mirror; and then bawls his eyes out. Because you see, George saw his reflection and he looked like a scary dinosaur. The irony of this is; that George plays with a toy dinosaur that looks exactly like the costume. That was funny! (Why did you give this episode *** former self?!) Mummy Pig takes the mask off to show that it's just him seeing himself with the dinosaur mask on and that was that. George growls at the mirror with the mask on for a while and we cut back to the middle of the sitting room because it's time to pick out the "Best In Costume". My three picks: (1) Rebecca Rabbit with the carrot that makes her blush (2) George's Mr. Dinesaur costume and (3) Pedro Pony's clown costume or Suzy's nurse costume in a pick'em for bronze. (Pedro's costume is funnier than Pedro Pony here, so he wins third since the point is who has the best costume, not whom is wearing it. Suzy's character is better than Pedro's but the nurse costume can't compete with a clown.) Daddy Pig wants a child to be the judge of this, which is stupid because Mummy and Daddy Pig are the only ones without costumes on. Unless they need a third judge to make a panel; but if that is the case, why not call Mummy Sheep back to be the third judge?! Daddy Pig chooses Peppa Pig as the third judge since it's her party. Yes; the one who trolls on everyone but herself is the judge. Very impartial. Not. Even worse; Peppa has no idea who a judge is. This is not going to end well for anyone involved. Peppa inspects the costumes and the kids cut promos on their roles. (Suzy cuts a promo and does nothing of note, which is why former self didn't write anything in the original rant.)
Danny looks into an out of nowhere telescope for fun. (By the way, Danny Dog does the logic breaking tradition of switching eyes on the eye patch. At least here, Danny has fine eye sight and doesn't require the patch, so he could've switched the eye patch anytime he wanted. That's why I didn't consider it a logic break at the time former self wrote this.) Candy Cat and Peppa Pig gets into a raspberry exchanging feud caused by them claiming that they can turn each other into a frog; as Mummy Pig has to come in to break this one up. Peppa does apologize for it though as Pedro honks his horn and sounding more like Clamantha by the second. Pedro then flicks his shoes, trips and falls on his ass. Yeah. Peppa thought it was funny, I thought it was kind of sad, considering what Pedro becomes in this series. (Although after seeing the Baked Bean song, my sadness was washed away by laughter...) Rebecca blushes on cue because she loves carrots. (She giggled, but she didn't blush on cue which kind of killed the gimmick for me right there.) George growls and Peppa is impressed with all the costumes...and...(Drumroll please?! Good...)...Peppa picks...herself as the winner, because she's a troll. Everyone is shocked and appalled, what a surprise?! (Yeah, you have two impartial adult judges who could do this even if they are Peppa's parents and you pick the one kid who is the star of this show as the judge?! And then you are all surprised when I say that everyone on this show outside of Peppa is a geek?! This spot proves my point, I rest my case your honor!) Mummy Pig calls her out on it and Peppa has to pick someone else. (Remember that for a much later episode because this sort of thing happens again and it isn't called out!) She picks Rebecca Rabbit out of hand and Rebecca blushes again, indicating that she didn't expect to win, even though I picked her as the winner! (Once again, Danny Dog is the plucky guy who cannot win. Get use to it, boys of the world! Dressing up as a carrot is the silliest costume ever, so Rebecca won by default here.) Everyone laughs as the narrator sums it up nicely to end the episode at 4:30 approx. (I'm kind of disappointed no one did the backsplash laugh here because seeing Pedro do it in a clown suit is MONEY, MONEY, YEAH, YEAH~!) Fun for what it was and not much more. (Are you ribbing me former self?! This episode was really good and even funnier on the second viewing and that finish of Peppa screwing everyone over like the troll that she is was glorious and the adult have no one but themselves to blame. Encourage Mummy Sheep to be a judge on a three judge panel! Rebecca Rabbit earned her wings in this episode, too. *** 3/4 (75%).)
The Museum: Moving on to episode #39 on the animation paper, and we begin this episode at a museum like building with leaf symbols and a purple/white checked flag flying. The red car pulls up and parks on the steepest side of the hill...AGAIN! Then on the closeup shot; the car seemly disappears when the Pig family all get out. Peppa has Teddy and George has Mr. Dinsesaur with them for some odd reason. Peppa is questionning this as Daddy admits that there are things older than him, just to show that it's not over a hundred years old. Peppa is like "ooookkkkaaayyy" and Mummy Pig talks about a room based on royalty. Peppa loves this as Daddy Pig also points out that there is a room with a real live dinosaur in it. Yeah; I'll bet. George loves this and he is going to be disappointed by this real dinosaur. George does his usual promo and we head inside at the lobby with Miss Rabbit as the cashier. (You know the museum doesn't get a lot of business when the echo chamber sound effects are in play here.) The museum is as fancy as the artwork will allow as we get five tickets: two adults, two children and one dinosaur toy. What; Teddy gets in for free?! (Why am I not surprised that Peppa's toy gets in for free when she's the star of the show?! If I were George, I would have stayed quiet. Yeah, the dinosaur toy gets a ticket.) The first room contains colored robes and crowns hung on a rack as George wants to see the real dinosaur and teases bawling his eyes out; but Mummy comes in and tells him that they'll see the dinosaur next. All the robes are in fact properly of the Queen and this was before we saw the queen for real, so you can't say the writers were not building towards a payoff of Peppa seeing the queen of England. So we see the golden throne on a podium as Mummy Pig explains it is the queen's chair as well. Peppa calls it beautiful as we see the sparkling purple dress the queen wears. At least this dress looks like royalty and then we see the crown sparkling on a podium of it's own as Peppa is in awe over this. (Also of note: Despite showing all the outfits and stuff from the Queen, we never see any pictures of the Queen at this point. There's a great reason for it since the children are not ready to get their minds blown yet and seeing the adults creating horror theories based on their sick, sick, sick fantasies as a result of said decision...)
Peppa then looks around and asks: Where is the queen's television?! I died and then came back to life. Mummy Pig explains that there was no television back then. Yes there was; it was called theatre. (Ooooo, Mummy Pig is going to need lotion after that sick burn from former self. Theatre is still around even today. This spieces never stood a chance from jump.) They had no computers back then, sadly. (Peppa also asks "What did they do back then?!" and the adults all giggle. Me: "Sleep and do nothing of note". That's what I would do if there was no television nor computers. Considering the world today, this would actually be a boring experience, but not a miserable one.) Peppa has a dream of being a queen who eats chocolate cake all day on her throne room. This is the sort of dream I have, although chocolate cake is replaced with donair dinners and lots of onion rings. Neither one is believable actually. (Yup.) George is of course, the fool in this dream; at least it's not Pedro Pony this time. That would have sucked. Of course the subjects bow to their queen as she wants more cake. Of course! We return to reality (Are you kidding me?) as the rest of the family is in the room and they left Peppa hanging. HAHA! Daddy calls for Peppa to come inside and we head to a barely lit room and Peppa has still not got out of her fantasy of being a queen because she's ordering Daddy Pig to bow before her. (Which we saw in the previous rant I ranted on in the proper order.) Daddy Pig bows and explains that he's her daddy; and Peppa calls it very interesting as they are holding hands. Okay; can we advance the plot now?! (Yeah, they are killing time in a four and a half minute episode. Story of these shows methinks.) Thankfully; Daddy does decide to actually advance the plot as they are in the dinosaur room. Peppa and George are confused, because they cannot see him and assume that it's small. Daddy claims that it's actually very big. He turns the lights on and we get a zoom out shot of the skeleton of a giant dinosaur. Peppa and George giggle and love it. (George does his "grr" promo and it actually causes an earthquake in the room! That was funny.)
Then we get to George's fantasy of being a dinosaur in the prehistoric ages, a Pigosaurus George that snorts like a pig and chases Peppa away who apparently got into George's fantasy by teleport because she's still wearing her normal gear. (That cracked me up for all the wrong reasons I might add.) Peppa is scared and bails stage right. This was hilariously stupid and yet a bit creepy at the same time. Also; the dream sequence had better selling from Peppa then the chase with the kids in reality (Are you kidding me?! Yes, Peppa in the fantasy was frowning and sounding legit terrified, screaming for help; and then you go to reality and she's laughing her ass off while being chased. A complete burial of George's dinosaur gimmick.). Mummy Pig calls this room the favorite room of George and somehow, George has teleported back to where the dinosaur would be in the background. Peppa loves the king and queen room. Of course; even though Peppa had more fun being chased by George in the dinosaur room. I guess this room was a very close second. Mummy Pig proclaims that Daddy Pig is in his favorite room right now: the museum cafe at the table with a lot of honey mustard colored chairs. There is tea and chocolate cake at the ready as Miss Rabbit is running the cafe. (Hey, it's my favorite room too! Although I did enjoy the dinosaur room, as well. Also, Peppa can now have her cake and eat it in reality and fantasy. How about that?!) Or is it Mummy Rabbit?! Who knows, who cares?! (I do, because it's another job for Miss Rabbit. Trust me, these multiple jobs are going to get even more absurd later on to the point when I'm literally screaming for there to be multiple Miss Rabbits and thanking her for littering.) Everyone sits down and Peppa calls this a very nice room. Everyone laughs to end this episode at 4:30 approx. George's fantasy is more warped than Peppa's; and yet Peppa is the oppressive fantasy?! Yeah, sure. *** 1/4 (65%).
Very Hot Day: Here is episode #40 on the animation paper as we begin with the bluest skies ever at the house on the hill to indicate that it is hot and sunny outside. Zoom to the back door and out comes Peppa and George in their boots along with Mummy and Daddy as they calls this a hot day. (Problem #1: None of the pig sweat like ham in a pressure cooker, so it cannot get that hot. Kind of kills what the episode is shooting for here. Also, it would be worse for Peppa since her dress is of a darker color and heat absorbs darker colors while reflecting off lighter colors.) Apparently; on a hot day, this family still believes in jumping up and down in muddy puddles. But wait! Since mud requires a lot of water mixed in with dirt to create it and water is very low during a heat wave, there are no muddy puddles to jump in. Just mounds of solid dirt. Peppa jumps into a muddy puddle and she get a jolt as the puddle breaks like ice. (Suzy Sheep claims it's magic, there's no getting around this in the Peppa Pig world.) The narrator explains the obvious for us and then the kids run back as Peppa points out the obvious to the parents. Mummy tells her not to worry because it's time to bring out the inflatable wading pool; known in Britian as the puddling pool. Somehow, I like puddling pool better than wading pool. I should also note that in Britian; it's not swim suits; it's swimming costumes. Also like more than swim suits actually. (I'm guessing that it's to desexualize the suits, but that would work better if no one had sexual organs. Good luck getting rid of that one in evolution or abiogenesis. Also, the males's chests are exposed. I think Peppa Pig Tales covered those up and maybe Peppa Pig in later seasons, but I could easily be wrong here.) Everyone goes inside as everyone comes out in their swimming costumes. Also; their favorite colors are part of the costumes, as in their favorite ice cream. This is the most rigid coordination of color roles I have ever seen, even in a pre-school show. Another British word I like: "sun cream" over "sun screen"; because "sun cream" makes a hell of a lot more sense. (Personally, "sun shield" would be the best name for it, but whatever.) Mummy Pig smears Peppa and George with it right in the face. Daddy calls it a fuss over nothing. (Okay, this did legit piss me off! This is a terrible way to apply sun cream.)
You know; if someone rubbed sun cream in my face -- without asking first -- I would go back into the house and not come out. Sun cream can burn your eyes. Maybe not cause permanent eye damage; but it does burn for goodness sakes. Just be careful out there and don't aim for the face! Let me do the face instead, then if it hits my eyes than I can blame myself for being such an idiot. Mummy Pig squirts Daddy Pig in the midsection with sun screen and Daddy makes a funny face -- before realizing that it's not in the face -- and then giggles and rubs the stuff on his tummy. (I have no problem with aiming for the big tummy and then going from there. That's a lot safer than aiming for the face!) Mummy pours the sun cream on her face. (Which is fine, because she is applying it herself. If she gets it in the eyes, she's at fault here.) Daddy Pig brings out the puddling pool which is inflatable with a foot pump; and is really cheesy. (It's not just the color, the design is so cheesy, it might as well be the Cheese Reporters puddling pool.) George runs down the hill and the puddling pool is thrown onto the ground. Daddy foot pumps the puddling pool and calls it easy as pie, despite blushing when he was doing it the entire time. Mummy Pig attaches the hose to the water faucet at the back of the house. Peppa runs down the hill with it and I put 1:1 odds that Daddy Pig gets sprayed in the face with it, since he is the only one who didn't get water on himself during the Cleaning The Car episode. Yes; they completely recycled "Cleaning The Car" as Peppa gets sprayed in the face with the hose after looking at the end of it. Surprisely; when Peppa manages to get the hose working, it fires into the pool and not into Daddy's face. Tres disappointing. The one time I wanted Peppa Pig to troll on Daddy Pig and give him his face spray, and they don't go for it. (Especially when Daddy Pig never got wet in "Cleaning The Car". Listen, this doesn't embarrass Daddy Pig if he gets the same spot Mummy Pig because Peppa Pig wasn't trying to troll anyone. She basically trolled herself! You are not making men look foolish; it's okay if Peppa Pig loses control and sprays Daddy Pig in the face with the hose. It's a great payoff to a previous episode!) Mummy Pig turns the water off causing Peppa and George to jump in. Basically; they jump up and down like they do in muddy puddles, only it's in water. (Considering that Peppa wants to be a champion muddy puddle jumper like Daddy Pig in The Golden Boots, this is as good of a sub for practice as any considering the conditions in this episode.)
Then we hear bell ringing and it's Miss Rabbit in her ice cream icebox bicycle waving and driving up the hill at the same time. (I believe this is Miss Rabbit job number six at this point.) Peppa asks if they can have ice cream; Mummy Pig is all right with it since it is a very hot day. And really; I cannot argue with that one. Daddy Pig asks if he can have one; as if he has no power to decide. What a geek?! (Yeah, moron is way too harsh here. Although Daddy Pig is lazy since he doesn't want to walk up the hill with his family, even though he's a grown-ass man. Is that hill really too steep for Daddy's big tummy today?!) Everyone goes up, except for Daddy Pig as Peppa wants a cone and she gets a vanilla ice cream cone; while Mummy Pig gets a chocolate and strawberry cone (one is for Daddy Pig, of course). George wants something dinesaur (sic) related as Peppa trolls George's lack of words, even though in the show, he can clearly say more than one word. Miss Rabbit understands and brings out an dinosaur-shaped orange ice lolly (In North America; ice pop as a generic term since the vast majority of the other names for it are trademarked. I believe this is the same issue in Britian as well.) for George to have and she even unwraps it for him. Mummy Pig tells George to eat the ice lolly before it melts; but George don't care because he loves to cosplay with it. (To be fair, Mummy Pig does have a point here as much as seeing George cosplaying with the ice lolly is hilarious.) Mummy Pig gives Miss Rabbit three gold coins and Miss Rabbit bicycles down the hill stage left. Mummy turns around and tries to tell George to eat the ice lolly a second time; but before she can finish her sentence, the entire ice lolly comes off the stick and turns into an orange puddle on the ground. You can guess what George does next without me saying it. Damn that very hot day to hell! (George is not crying to get his own way. He's crying because his ice lolly melted like he's mourning the dinosaur's death. As pathetic as that sounds, I am laughing and feeling sorry for George at the same time because I actually enjoyed his cosplaying. George needs a reality check.)
Mummy Pig tells George not to worry and offers the chocolate cone to share with Daddy Pig. I don't think that is a good idea as everyone goes down the hill stage right; as we see Daddy Pig sleeping and blushing. He has heat exhaustion; you see. (Yeah, I changed "stroke" (which I misspelled I might add), since "exhaustion" is more accurate and no one is selling any sort of heat from the sun at this point. That part also annoyed me.) Peppa takes the puddling pool and dowses it all over Daddy Pig, which is better than hosing Daddy in the face. (Ah, that's why they didn't do my payoff then. Good for them!) Daddy Pig wakes up as Peppa explains her actions and Daddy Pig is fine with that. There are puddles on the ground and the kids run back into the house and come back out wearing their boots. They jump up and down in regular water puddles as Daddy Pig is eating his ice cream to end the episode at 4:30 approx. (I just love how even though they don't have to wear their boots since it's just water, the kids cannot resist adhering to the first rule of puddle jumping. AWESOME!) Outside of some annoying moments; this was fun. (See, even when there are no muddy puddles, the water will do nicely. Although my payoff would be the muddy puddle from earlier is doused with water, turning it into a muddy puddle again and then they jump. Despite the annoying moments, this was more fun to watch on the second viewing, so *** 1/2 (70%).)
Chole's Puppet Show: We conclude this set with Episode #41 on the animation paper. Episode opens on the boring road as the Pig family's car is going west. The narrator explains that they are on their way to Uncle Pig's house to see him, Auntie Pig and Cousin Chole. Apparently; Chole is having a puppet show and the gimmick during these puppet shows is that Uncle Pig sleeps during them, according to Daddy Pig. Mummy Pig blows him off for being such a mean troll; and claiming that he's influencing the children. As Mummy Pig was doing this; her stare is glorious. She knows it's too late and already knows that the kids already know this is going to happen even before Daddy Pig mentioned it. Ironically; after hearing Daddy Pig's explaination on why this is ture; I realize why Mummy Pig told him to shut up: Because Daddy Pig is a hypocrite who does all the things Uncle Pig does. I should note that Uncle and Daddy Pig are considered blood brothers in storyline. Now; this doesn't mean that they do everything the same, but conditioning can lead to this immunity to irony. The kids giggle and then Daddy Pig tells them to forget what he said; basically admitting his hypocrisy before he can be exposed as one. The kids giggle which means that they are on to him. We head to the white house on the hill number two as the car pulls up and park on the steepest side of the road. (Incorrect: It's actually the cyan blue house on the hill with a swing set! How former self didn't see this is a mystery to me.) Everyone comes out, except for Baby Alexender, since I don't think BA debuts until at least Series 2 at this point. (Yup. It's odd because Baby Alexander just comes out of nowhere and we are expected to accept this. Especially worse in hindsight now since the show wasn't afraid of prengant people anymore since Mummy Rabbit's Bump, which told me that Peppa Pig clearly hates stats.) We meet, greet and snort for fun; as the narrator acts like Captain Obvious again. (Uncle Pig is Daddy Pig without glasses, his facial hair is black, has eyebrows and wears a different shade green shirt. That's how to tell them apart.) Chloe and the kids meet and greet; and then we head into the house as they run upstairs to Chloe's room where there is a table set up with theatre curtains and a golden plated frame. (I might as well mention this: Mummy Pig has black eyelashes while Auntie Pig has gold eyelashes. I don't know why they had to do that since the dresses are totally different in color, thus much easier to tell who's who.) Uncle Pig made this small theater as Chloe pulls the curtains apart and the kids are in awe over this. (In the background of Chole's room, Chole has a Panda bear that is basically a color swap of Teddy!)
Chloe shows off her puppets and they are human face versions of Chloe and Uncle Pig and cosplays them; the Uncle Pig one is hilarious as we then we teleport over to near her bed as the paint and puppet making materials come out of nowhere. (I should note that Chole identifies herself as Chole Pig.) We make a Peppa Pig doll with red mouth and George naturally wants a dinesaur (sic everytime you see "dinesaur" written on this rants.) puppet which Peppa blows off. Chloe paints a dinosaur and it's the most accurate looking puppet Chloe has ever painted since she added a tail. George giggles. (Chole's good at puppet making and a great development of her character in this show, but she hasn't got the pig ears part of the Pig's down yet. Her dinosaur of George misses the scales, though. Also, Chole also reads Ezza Magazine as seen with the magazine on the floor, so this is a magazine that is for general audiences and not just women. Another interesting angle, Chole also has a goldfish in a much bigger tank. I have zero idea if this is a new goldfish, or Goldie is a shared goldfish between Peppa and Chole though.) The dinner bell rings in the background and it's lunch time, with lots of pasta, lemonade and apparently; red wine. (Only in this world is where spaghetti is eaten without sauce and called the best in the world. Only this show!) Only the adults drink it of course; but it's a little bit surprising in a pre-school show. Although; you could argue about guns in North American cartoons for children; but usually they are not seen in pre-school shows either. (It's the old "We know it's alcohol, but we are not telling anyone. It's very common in big kids cartoons, especially in TaleSpin's era; but rare in pre-school shows. I do know that usually wine glasses would be changed to something closer to the glasses of lemonade and the color would be lighter, like strawberry milk for instance. Maybe I should look more into this.) Mummy and Aunite have a chuckle about how similar Daddy and Uncle Pig are. Daddy Pig is not amused by this because they are totally different. Which is ture. Daddy Pig is bigger than Uncle Pig, for starters, and Uncle Pig doesn't wear glasses. Yet. Even Uncle Pig agrees with Daddy Pig; so the kids and women laugh. I'm laughing too; because the differences are too minute to make much of a difference.
The kids make the announcement about their upcoming puppet show and run up as the adults like this. Daddy Pig and Uncle Pig want more pasta; Auntie and Mummy Pig laugh because the males do not understand the irony of all this. (They are literally projecting on each other and I howled with laughter seeing this.) We jump cut to Chloe's bedrom for the puppet show as the adults clap and take their seats. (The closeup backgrounds are clearly zoomed in since they look really blury. Just an observation on my part.) The curtain opens and George is one who steals the show with his awesome dinosaur puppet impressions. (Not to mention that the response to Puppet Dinesaur is exactly the same as in The Museum when Peppa chased George in real time with Mr. Dinesaur only in puppet form. I laughed and laughed and laughed some more.) The adults clap as Uncle Pig Puppet arrives, who is the second biggest star of this puppet show as Auntie loves the scale of realism on the tummy part; which Uncle Pig is certain that it doesn't scale. Then the puppets finally bring up Daddy Pig's claim that Uncle Pig falls asleep and snores. (You know it's a troll move when Peppa Pig makes ZERO effort to NOT show her face while she does her trolling. Nothing subtle about this trolling at all, no siree! Then Chole just comes out and she's LESS subtle than Peppa Pig! Wow, I didn't suspect Chole to be an enabler of Peppa's trolling but here is it. Who knew Peppa Pig's trolling was contiguous?!) Mummy Pig is mortified by this and blows Daddy Pig off for mentioning it in the first place. Auntie Pig just smiles; because you see, even she knows that it doesn't matter, since what Daddy Pig said was true. It also doesn't matter because he's hypocritical since Daddy Pig and Uncle Pig are snoring together. That was awesome! (Here's the two brothers to prove the troll right.) It's moments like this that make me love this show. Mummy Pig was more concerned about the children being mean -- despite Peppa's undisguised meaness being on full display even before this episode happened -- than calling out Daddy Pig on his hypocrisy. Uncle Pig wakes up; Daddy Pig wakes up as they missed the entire puppet show, even though they were watching the first half of it. HAHA! Everyone laughs as the kids do the backsplash laugh to end the episode and the DVD set at 4:30 approx. This family loves puppet shows. Everyone loves puppet shows; mainly the Muppet Show~! One of the best episodes of Series One thus far. **** (80%).
THE REVIEW LINE
Well; this was a mixed bag of shorts. Get used to this, it happens a lot in this series. Chole's Puppet Show was the best of the lot as the story is that Daddy Pig and Uncle Pig love to project themselves and Chole and Peppa love to rub it in. The brothers are adults now, they shouldn't be making themselves easy targets. Lunch could have been better if they really toned down the peer pressure of the family when it came to the salad, as much as I lost a bit of respect for George for not liking cucumbers. Fancy Dress Party was almost a thumbs up episode, and much funnier in hindsight due to the finish and Rebecca Rabbit proving that clowns are not the silliest costumes in the world. She needed some character development at this point. The Treehouse episode did annoy me more on the second viewing because there was no need for a body shaming secret word when Daddy Pig was right there to prove that his tummy was too big. The rest were fine. I really don't have much more to say outside of what I have said already as next up is the final episodes of Series One and the beginning of the end of the Lilly Snowden-Fine era of Peppa Pig. So...
Thumbs up Chole's Puppet Show, thumbs down for Lunch, thumbs in the middle for everything else and I'll see you all next time.
