Peppa Pig Tales #28 Rant
Reviewed: 03/01/2025
Old School Peppa Pig Is Back! Sort of Part 28!
Well, since Peppa Pig the series has been slowing down and there's only four episodes left in the pot, I was going to resume TaleSpin work this year. An easy series that gives me great joy in terms of mockery and enjoyment. There is still lots let to do before I can finally wrap that show up. Sadly, TaleSpin has been delayed until at least 2025, because my second love and enjoyment decided to really run interference on me. How so you ask? Welcome to the Rant Shack: Peppa Pig Tales! And after the very first episode, I cannot resist and I'm going to rant on these "shorts" because Baby Alexander is back and creating a lot more questions than answers. (March 2023 Gregory Weagle Says: Hold it! I have just gotten word that there is no problems with Uncle and Auntie Pig and the family is getting along just fine. You'll see the evidence in Baby Bumps. Only one missing is Cousin Chole now.) Peppa Pig Tales is a series of short 3-3 1/2 minute episodes (Literally up to 75% of an average "Peppasode".) of Peppa Pig doing stuff without the original voices or creators with most of the "filler" cut out. That's basically it. It is awkward listening to this when you are so used to seeing the show, however; it is basically the same in term of premise. So, I'll be doing eight episodes per block like I always do until this series gets sick and tired of this and goes back to the actual Peppa Pig series which has reached eight series up to this point. How do these episodes fare?! Let's rant on shall we..?!
Editor's Note #1: We have two new writers, Alison Ray and Jeremy Krause. Alison Ray's credits: The Story Makers as a debut in 2002, Fun Sony Factory, BB3B, Fun With Friends: Volume 1, Spookier Collection, Blitz and Bob, Pip and Posy, My Friend Misty, Lu & The Bally Bunch, with Peppa Pig Tales being the most recent credit. Jeremy Krause's credits: Life, Death & Fucking Up as his debut, Kiddyzuzaa (three different productions), Snoopy, Boy & Dragon, Jelly Time, Emojitown, Caillou's New Adventures and Peppa Pig Tales being the most recent credit. Alison wrote the episode "Dress Up Day". Jeremy Krause wrote "Fondue!"
Editor's Note #2: I will no longer be revealing which episodes were done by whomever, since my video source keeps cutting off the endings and it's basically the same six to seven writers anyway.
Opening Moment #1: LEGO Peppa is back! That's all you need know.
Valentines Day: Short opens outside of the house as Mummy Pig comes out with George because they are going to get a present for Daddy Pig. George is loving it and Daddy Pig gives a shove to George for no reason before saying and waving goodbye. What was that all about?! Peppa and Daddy Pig go back inside to decorate as the stop motion animation continues to expose the limitations of the art style. Daddy Pig has a white block containing paper hearts for the two to decorate the house. It's impossible to take that as white paper when it looks like a box. They couldn't find a thin strip LEGO block and paint it white?! They decorate the house to waste time ending with Peppa jumping into Daddy Pig's lap. The LEGO models just make it look more scary than it actually was. There are a lot of fake candlesticks with fake flames around the house for no reason. Next up is making the chocolate cake and before anyone tells me, this is Peppa Pig. Chocolate cake is their favorite cake. Daddy Pig of course is the GEEK OF THE WEEK because he forgot to get the stuff to make the cake. Betcha they buy the cake from the open air supermarket as we jump cut to the road with Daddy Pig driving the car and Peppa Pig being the backseat driver. I'll give this art style credit: They made the boring road less boring. We then see the treehouse on the hill with George and Mummy Pig digging a hole in the ground in front of said treehouse. If you cannot guess the final spot right now, you need to watch Muddy Puddles. When George and Mummy Pig are digging the hole, the small brown stuff instantly turns into brown rectangle LEGO blocks. SUZY SHEEP~?! Also, Mummy Pig sings the TEDDY RUXPIN SONG OF DOOM, and it is nothing to sing about. Back to the worst supermarket in LEGO history as Peppa and Daddy Pig get the stuff to make the cake, so no they didn't buy a chocolate cake. They put the blocks into the back of the car and speed back home. Ground shot of the sky inside the hole as George growls and Mummy Pig is amused. By the way, the shovels are bigger than George Pig and somehow George easily handles said shovel. LARSON & GARY~?! Mummy Pig then admits that the dirt is what they need as they find more colored blocks and laid them with the dirtpile. George is confused and so am I because this cannot be a muddy puddle. Mummy Pig proclaims that they need to build it and paint it, bringing out the artist paint palette. Jump cut back to the open house to find that the cake is already done. Peppa is impressed as it's BEFORE HAPPY HOUR (sunset), and Daddy Pig by the magic of teleportation puts a block that looks like a purple present. Then someone knocks on the door in the background despite no one being outside there, but on the next shot, George appears out of nowhere. Whatever, stop motion and Peppa Pig do not mix and it really show in the logic breaks. Daddy Pig opens the door and George is giggling. George drags Daddy Pig out of the house and Mummy Pig arrives to show off the biggest heart of all LEGO time. This love heart appears to have a yellow slide, stars, a barn and windmills. Pfft, whatever. Peppa comes out of the house with the chocolate cake and gives it to Mummy Pig. Mummy Pig opens the gift and loves the chocolate cake. Everyone is happy as the narrator says it all to end the episode at 3:08 with Mummy Pig kissing Daddy Pig on the cheek. Peppa and George don't get repulsed by it. This was an okay story on paper, but the logic was so bad here. ** 1/4 (45%).
Tunnel of Love: Short opens inside the tunnel of love with two seperate swan rides, one with Mummy Pig and one with Daddy Pig. Because they are huge and cannot take one of the swans without sinking the boat. The narrator explains the obvious to us as Daddy and Mummy Pig cut promos, hold hands and try to kiss each other on the lips; but then Peppa and George pop up to break this up. George thinks the swan is a dine-e-saur, that was funny. Of course, Peppa and George are here to make sure no one does lip kissing because it's considered gross. Mummy Pig corrects him on that one, Peppa wants to cosplay pirate, but Daddy Pig has to inform her that this is a gentle love ride. Daddy Pig wants gentle love, Peppa wants pirate love. Miss Rabbit is on the PA system as we get four swans riding the tunnel of love. No, I'm not doing the *SMACK* joke anymore, it's not worth it. What was worth it though is we see Mr. Bull and Mrs. Cow holding hands and Doctor Polar Bear and Mummy Polar Bear holding hands in their swans. Yes, this means that in the Peppa Pig World, the two mummies are in fact married. At least it was implied here. Peppa is waving at the water, but cannot do it since you are supposed to keep your arms and legs inside the boat at all times. Miss Rabbit then goes into a spiel about flowers while flowers and rainbow colors flash on and off the screens in the background. Daddy Pig of course breaks the rules to grab one of the flowers from the white door jam and gives it to Mummy Pig. Mummy Pig sniffs the flower, the kids do not call Daddy Pig out on violating the rules. No, I'm not doing the FAIRY GODPARENTS~ joke either, it's not worth it anymore. Besides, the tunnel of love has a down ramp as Miss Rabbit claims that love is exciting, basically contradicting her spiel earlier. Daddy Pig is not liking this as Peppa wants to do it again. Molly Cunningham would have been proud of her. Miss Rabbit proclaims that love can light up your life. So, Miss Rabbit wants Mummy and Daddy Pig to set themselves on fire?! WHAT?! There is neon signs in the background lighting up as Daddy and Mummy Pig hold hands again. Daddy Pig proclaims that Mummy Pig lights up his world and Mummy Pig sarcastically tells him to stop. By the way: Expect this response by the narrator when Duggee does something off the wall at the end of "Hey, Duggee!" Peppa then shoves the swan boat, I guess she realizes no one is following the rules. Then the kids all rock the boat, forcing the adults to hold hands again to stop this. Daddy Pig proclaims that love is not a race, Miss Rabbit is like "FUCK YOU~!" and proclaims that love is expecting the unexpected. I mention this because Daddy Pig got sprayed with water from the hearts with eyes in the background. The eyes are the water shooters of course.
Miss Rabbit then proclaims that love can take you to unusual places as Daddy Pig gets the white tunnel and Mummy Pig gets the decorated heart tunnel. Peppa is loving this win as Daddy Pig is green with sickness at the lights and overkill colors of hearts. He apparently is "seasick", since he's not at sea but is on the water. I don't think this is due to his fear of heights angle. Anyhow, jump cut to Miss Rabbit proclaiming that love has it's ups and downs as Mummy Pig's swan goes up and Mummy Pig is relieved and then goes down and Mummy Pig has a shock. The swans all come out and come together as Peppa Pig is still thinking this is a race and then they repeat the spot! Now, if I was going to do this, I would have the swans go into the opposite tunnels. Mummy Pig takes the left tunnel and Daddy Pig takes the right tunnel. Nope, I'm not doing the Democrat/Republican joke anymore, for obvious reasons. Then it all gets absurd as Miss Rabbit proclaims that love is like an orange and orange slices rain down on Mummy Pig and George. George is amused by this, Mummy Pig (who is soaked) not so much. George eats the orange slices and then we jump cut to Daddy Pig and Peppa enjoying a sea breeze on the beach sequence. Complete with giant fan and beach background as fake leaves fly through the fan which is turned on. Daddy Pig and Peppa love this, until Daddy Pig almost loses his glasses in the process. Jump cut to the jungle scene as the robot Dine-e-saur from the museum on George's birthday is back! Woo-hoo! This episode is much better than the LEGO Duplo episode by a mile. George loves it as Mummy Pig has to confess that there was a dine-e-saur. Then we got the most hilarious moment of the episode: Daddy Pig, Mummy Pig, Peppa Pig and George Pig finally reach the end of the tunnel of love. They are soaked and leaves are on Peppa and Daddy Pig. The Pig family is beaming with excitement, while the two mummies, Mr. Bull and Mrs. Cow are completely green with sickness. They could not stand the tunnel of love. That means Mummy Pig, George Pig and Peppa Pig never got sick throughout the whole entire thing. Daddy Pig did get sick midway through, but recovered. This was so absurd. Daddy Pig and Mummy Pig hold hands and tease another kiss on the lips, but Peppa cuts them off and wants to go through the love tunnel again. Peppa says please over and over again, but the adults accept when George says "dine-e-saur". The narrator says it all as Mummy and Daddy Pig proclaim that this show is an adventure to end the episode at 3:03. I loved this episode, and I also love Peppa trying so hard to prevent that gross kissing from occuring. **** 1/2 (90%).
Dress Up Day: Short opens inside the school house on the hill as Gigi Gazelle comes in with the CHEST OF DEMONS. The second I saw that -- I couldn't resist -- the joke is so on brand with Madame Gazelle that it just had to be used. The chest is so overfilled that when Gigi stops pushing, the lid opens and clothes bury the children. The children are so thrilled by this moment that somewhat this causes them to yell "Dress Up Day!" Not only that, this causes it to be a title card like the mainline Peppa Pig series! SUZY SHEEP~?! Clothes get thrown as Gigi reminds them that they can be anything they want. There is a dinosaur suit in the area, so you can guess who George wants to be before they dress up. The kids are Peppa Pig, George Pig, Suzy Sheep, Danny Dog, Candy Cat and Rebecca Rabbit. I was right about George, but before he can grab the suit, Candy Cat steals it. What a naughty kitty?! Peppa Pig is dressed like the mayor and looks like a complete tool in that outfit. She looks like a sailor judging sailboats. She thinks mayors opens new stores in the imagination world as she cuts the ribbon for a new candy store as Suzy Sheep wearing a crown jumps for joy alongside Peppa. Wonder how many kickbacks were needed for that store to be a "reality"?! Don't ask, there is no government in the world of Peppa Pig. Yet. Suzy Sheep is now Princess Suzy. I guess now that Peppa Pig has given up her dream of being a princess, it seems only fair that Suzy give up her dream of becoming a nurse. Sadly, the later on is a believable occupation. The fact that this world is still much better than the real world should scare and anger everyone even more. Suzy also lives in a castle, a purple/white bouncy castle. Okay, that's believable at least. It's kind of surprising that the two believers of magic are doing stuff grounded in reality for a change. We return to reality (no, not really) as Candy Cat arrives in the dinosaur costume. This is so defamatory that I wish this witch gets it's proper sick burns. You know you deserved to be sick burnt when even Peppa Pig is appalled by this. Keep in mind, this is the same Peppa who cannot stand George choosing dinosaur over anything else in the mainline series. Candy Cat apologizes and looks for George, but cannot find him. Jump cut to George being a construction worker, because you see, George loves diggers and construction. I suspect that the next new character for Peppa Pig will be a woman construction worker. Hmmmm, maybe it's Mummy Llama all along, we don't know her job as of yet. Peppa loves it and wants to build a new town in the imagination world as George brings out the plastic hammer of plots. Sadly, he forgets to turn the hammer and hits the head into his helmet. I realize that it was the lightest tap possible, but please don't do that. This can kill you. Suzy Sheep brings in a cardboard box, they stack one cardboard box on top, George hits the cardboard box with the plastic hammer, head to imgination world as these two boxes are literally the shops and the apartments above the shops. They built three apartment buildings and three shops: Toy shop, clothes shop and shoe shop.
Somehow, a recycling bin was also teleported in. SUZY SHEEP~?! Oh wait, it's a bubble making machine with shark fins. Of course! What a fool I am?! To think that these kids care about the environment when they love bubbles. Peppa cuts the ribbon for the opening of the bouncy castle. It just occured to me: Peppa is allowed to use scissors now as long as it is in the imagination world, and they are plastic pretend scissors. That just makes the BS&P look foolish in my opinion. By the way, Candy Cat in the imgination world looks twenty feet tall, that was funny. There is also a giant dinosaur sized park for Candy Dinosaur Cat to play in, which Peppa cuts the ribbon for. George is no longer amused at the role of being a builder as the narrator claims that Candy's dinosaur doesn't stomp. Even though the "Dinosaur Stomp" is jumping up and down and Candy Cat was jumping up and down earlier in the short. Someone should have changed that line, it makes no sense! George somehow teleports in and yells "NO!" This little piggy is enough to make 20 foot tall Candy Dinosaur Cat panic in mortal fear. By the way, they head back to reality and there are three cardboard box building drawn and decorated out of nowhere. George has had enough and wants to be a dine-e-saur, GRRRRR! Narrator claims that George is helping Candy Cat with the stomping. I don't think so, narrator. Candy Cat then tells George that she skips and she skips away as George looks into the hard camera. Uh-oh! Now you have done it, Candy. We all know when a two year old on this show looks into the hard camera, that he's going to bawl his eyes out. I check the video...He doesn't. George growls and yells in protest. Peppa points out that this is Candy Cat's style of dinosaur and that's okay according to Gigi Gazelle. George decides to let this go as Suzy is being chased by Candy and boxes get knocked down. George then gets inspired...Mr. Bull inspired. Uh-oh! That means George must exercise his own deconstructive tendenices. He finds the toy wrecking ball machine and head into imagination world as the kids feel the rumbling of the ground. They realize George is going to knock them all down and they flee in "mortal panic", because they are hideously hilariously bad actors as George in the "real world" is knocking down cardboard boxes, but not the buildings behind them. I guess BS&P thought that spot was a bridge too far. Peppa is happy as we head back to the imagination world as everyone fleeing from George. George breaks the sign on the building with his wrecking ball, while the narrator says it all to end the episode at 3:08. Not only did we discover a new writer, this is the only episode in Peppa Pig Tales that got new ending music and it sucked. LEGO Duplo doesn't count since their ending music is the same song, only the beginning spot is different. This music was so machine sounding that it really feels like a song literally created by AI. Episode was awesome though, so a great debut for Alison Ray. **** 1/2 (90%).
Fondue!: Short opens BEFORE HAPPY HOUR as the Pig family are camping using their caravan. Mummy Pig is preparing the fruits and other foods, while Daddy Pig is cooking on the campfire. Daddy Pig is wearing the an apron that looks like swiss cheese while grating something that may or may not be cheese. Out of the door of the caravan is Peppa and George jumping and taunting, which causes the narrator to give up. Daddy Pig yells "Fondue!", and this causes a title card to come up. So, this is the new gimmick for the Peppa Pig Tales show now. It was great the first time, now it is just another silly thing to annoy me now. Peppa pops for the word and then repeats it in her taunts. Daddy Pig is making cheese fondue. Peppa than asks what is fondue and Daddy Pig cuts a promo and I couldn't understand 90% of what he was saying, and Peppa didn't understand any of it. Mummy Pig comes in with the sliced food to say "it's sticky melted cheese", which is exactly what is on Daddy Pig's steel ladle. Peppa gets it and they all giggle. Daddy Pig takes a giant wooden toothpick and picks a mushroom piece from the plate to demonstrate. George is like "FUCK THIS~!" and shoves the plate, causing all the food to go into the fondue pot, much to Daddy Pig's protest. HAHA! That was funny, and once Mummy Pig said, "uh-oh", George suddenly realizes, he messed up. Daddy Pig decides that they'll do it the George way, and use the skewers to dig for buried treasure, to use Peppa's analogy. Peppa picks up a cheese onion, but George Pig eats it on the rebound. He's being a really naughty piggie today, isn't he?! Mummy Pig then turns this into a contest as they all get plates and have a go in stereo at the fondue pot. The adults cannot make their skewers stick food on to save their lives, while Peppa and George can. George is literally dominating this game, that was funny. George's hand is sticky as Daddy Pig is enjoying himself because he's finally catching up, and then he tilts his head and somehow his glasses fall into the melted cheese. They fish out the glasses and then have a hearty laugh. George wins the game as expected, although there's more than enough food to feed an army despite having much less when they started. SUZY SHEEP~?! This melty cheese seems to clone pieces of food out of nowhere. Peppa praises George, Daddy Pig claims that George gets the skills from Daddy. Yeah sure, Daddy. George then splats his cheese all over everyone, basically as a way of saying "No, Daddy. I didn't get them from you.". Mummy Pig says it all and then they kiss, and neither Peppa nor George are grossed out. I guess it only applies to kissing on the lips. Now, it's AFTER HAPPY HOUR (after dark) as the family is sitting on their chairs, stuffed. The fondue pot is empty and the plates are mostly empty. Daddy Pig bails as Peppa is disappointed because it's time to turn out the lights, the party's over. However, it's not over because Daddy Pig brings out the purple fountain of melted chocolate, which Daddy Pig says the same thing in French. Peppa is confused, so Mummy Pig explains it in English. Peppa gets it as Daddy Pig puts the fountain onto the grill which has no flame I should note. Peppa reminds George that they must dip their marshmellows into the chocolate dip one at a time. But wait?! Daddy Pig brings the marshmellows and decides to do it the George way and throw them into the fountain, because he wants a rematch. Daddy Pig loves jobbing to George, doesn't he?! The family sits down to pick the marshmellows as Peppa asks if he did this as a kid, Daddy Pig says no; but loves George's way anyway. The narrator says it all to end the episode at 3:08. Another new writer, and this writer gets the same AI autotune ending song as Alison Ray did. I do not like that song. The episode was very good debut for Jeremy Krause and it was a fun time. *** 3/4 (75%).
Mummy Mischief Returns!: Short opens with Peppa and George on the sofa playing video games on their touch-screen tablets. Peppa has a rainbow on the back of her tablet while George has a dine-e-saur on the back of his tablet. The floor is a mess and Mummy and Daddy Pig enter. Mummy Pig has a yellow feather duster, so apparently she killed Tweety on the way in. Mummy Pig wants Peppa and George to clean up the house, but the kids no sell because they only listen if she said "tidy up". At least the kids were nice about it as Daddy Pig is wearing yellow gloves, as if he's going to clean up a crime scene. Mummy Pig decides it's time to play hardball and her way of doing it is to go to her cellphone and lock it, which causes Peppa and George's tablet to be locked up in what is called "Timeout Jail". That parental system is awesome, they might as well be playing Nintendo Switches. Anyhow, it's time for the return of Mummy Pig's alter evil ego, known as Mischief Mummy! Yes, "Mischief Mummy Returns!" is the title card for this episode. Both evil parents sneak stage left as the kids are appalled that their tablets are locked like there is some ransomware going on literally. Only except, at least Peppa and George don't have to spend any money nor cryptocurrency on this one. Then the lights go out, which was caused by Mischief Mummy Pig, and the lights return as both tablets are gone. This is such overkill, I love it! The kids are shaking in fear as Mischief Mummy returns for real in costume, along with her sidekick, Baddie Daddie! Their tablets have gone to jail, BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That's not me laughing, Mischief Mummy did this. MM proclaims that the kids must perform three "impossible" challenges, because it's literally "I'm Possible" challenges. Peppa and George accept the challenges by putting on generic hero costumes. Even Baddie Daddie is cooler than either two of you, so please tidy up this room before the moral guardians get embolden and arrest you all for treason. Mischief Mummy Pig proclaims that they stink in roundabout terms and Peppa smells herself and blows her off, thinking this is gaslight. Uh-oh, Peppa has gone noseblind. Where's Freddy Fox when you need him?! Mischief Mummy's first challenge is to do the wash in the washing machine, and these clothes in the hamper are stinky to say the least. I just love that the knobs on the washing machine look like eyes as MM calls this the Pit of Smells.
They must find the WCW KEY OF DOOM by putting everything in the washing machine. The kids are on the ball here as they open the door and stuff the washing machine with clothes. They find the red key as George closes the door and that is that. Mischief Mummy comes in impressed; but the next challenge is to find the map as MM throws her cloak and cackles so hilarously bad, the voice talent needs to replace Morwenna Banks in the mainline series as soon as possible. MM agrees to give them the map as long as they throw all the stuff on the floor in the sitting room into the tickle trunk of doom. A very cubic tickle trunk I might add. Peppa and George accept and it's like the gem collecting game to them, so they take all the stuff on the floor and throw it into the trunk. MM gives them the map and the vacuum drone arrives out of nowhere to take George on a ride with the map. George also has the yellow feather duster set to profits as they race around the tea table and then make it to the storage room below the stairs. MM does the funniest contrived signal of defeat of all time, as the door opens and out comes Baddie Daddie with the BEARD OF SATAN, because that's what a heel has. George then invokes the most devastating move in all of pre-school shows: the CHOOIE-CHOOIE-COO OF DEATH! Baddie Daddie runs around and then submits to George and the feather duster to become the GEEK OF THE WEEK~! This somehow makes the dust go away and the room sparkle. The kids cheer and go into the storage room to unlock Timeout Jail with the red key, which is made of cardboard. They get the tablets back and MM unlocks the tablet, but it now has a ten minute time limit. Peppa then reconsiders and wants to play more cleaning heroes instead because this was fun. MM locks the tablets again, and proclaims that they must catch the heels as everyone runs out of the storage room and up the stairs like this is a Scooby-Doo show. The narrator says it all to end the episode at 3:11. This is the best episode of Series Five so far and we need Mischief Mummy and Baddie Daddie in the mainline series right now! ***** (100%).
So Much Music: Short opens with Daddy Pig jumping up and down on a giant touchscreen piano. Peppa and George join in to make the music sound like noise. Peppa is giggling as she said the title card which is "So Much Music". Mummy Pig joins in and they all go into the next room. We see Danny Dog and Mummy Dog at an arcade cabinet as Danny Dog is struggling to play a two button rhythm game like a geek. Candy Cat and Gerald Giraffe are present as the narrator tells us that this is a music museum. It looks more like a music arcade, but whatever floats the boat. The this an arcade game where Peppa and George bang the drums, and they have a wonderful time doing so, unlike Danny Dog. Just twist the knife on the plucky boy dog who cannot win. There is also at least four buttons with faces and colors on them to indicate the theme of emotion for the game and Peppa picks the yellow happy face of course. The anger face and the sad face are way too similar as the screen has a dark blue background and five yellow stars sparkling. Danny is such a loser that he only gets one half of a star. Danny is pissed off because he's angry at this losing. Peppa's solution: Change the theme of the game to angry face and Danny tries again. This time, Danny Dog is on fire here. Sadly, we never get to see his final score since the Pig family leaves the scene, but Mummy Pig praises Peppa for her decision. The next room is dark with spotlights and it's all manual s instruments, which Peppa and George groin, because DIGITAL RULEZ~ and ANALOG DROOLZ~, you see. It's even more absurd when there is already a mainline episode about making instruments out of stuff. Peppa doesn't get it, George only gets dine-e-saur. Music is everywhere as they search for the music. George finds a wooden stringed twin columns thingie, I have no idea what it is called, as George twists a handle on the panel to play it. It sounds nice. Peppa finds the giant purple fan and turns it on as we have the makeshift wind chimes spot. George sneezes on a rack of balls and they drop like the Plinko game in The Price Is Right. Peppa goes into the spotlight, with the power of suggestion in her ears makes the giant stringed instrument play and the strings move around. Peppa tries her hands and the strings play music despite not touching anything. SUZY SHEEP~?! The family cheers and we go to the next room containing the touch screen of four colored corners containing musical beats shown on a giant television screen in the background. Peppa is confused, but she gets the objective when she throws a yellow block onto the yellow corner of the touch screen. Also of note, the colored blocks all make different sounds on the touch screen as long as they are the right color. George and Peppa are putting red blocks on the red corner of the touchscreen and Peppa just cannot decide which one she wants. She's weightlifting again. Peppa puts the green block on the green corner as Mummy and Daddy Pig hold hands...to do that dance! Peppa and George start dancing and it just occured to me, this is the debut of the ending credits theme song sung and dance by Peppa Pig. This one sounded awkward, but it was better because it was Peppa's song and sounded organic instead of the autotune version the end credits for Peppa Pig Tales got. The family is about to leave, when in comes Danny Dog putting a yellow block on the yellow corner and a red block on the red corner to start dancing with Mummy Dog. What disrespect to the blue corner?! Even the green corner got some love from Peppa Pig. Peppa is sad because she cannot take the music with her. However, in the next room there is a shelf containing instruments. On the bottom shelf is this musical cube and it plays Peppa Pig's music. Peppa is happy, everyone's happy and the narrator says it all to end the episode at 3:13. A very fun episode, but don't disrespect blue, you musical oppressors! *** 1/2 (70%).
Pancake Festival: Short opens outside of the school house on the hill with a closeup shot of a pancake machine. I know this because there is a white painted picture of pancakes and butter on the side panel. The pancake machine seems to be sluggish as Miss Rabbit has to hit the machine to make it work properly. Pan shot to the east as everyone is having pancakes. This includes Officer Panda, Reggie Rabbit, Mr. Bull, Mr. Zebra, Gerald Giraffe, Danny Dog, Doctor Pony, Mr. Rabbit, Mandy Mouse and Emily Elephant. Emily apparently flipped her pancake and it landed on the eastern table which both tables have measuring sticks on them. Daddy Pig and Peppa Pig are shown and yes, there are frying pans. The ECW vibes I can see when this episode get a Youtube poop episode. The narrator actually says the title card this time which is "Pancake Festival". Mr. Bull proclaims that it's time for the pancake flipping contest and I don't need to explain DA RULES (FAIRY GODPARENTS~!) for this one, since there is only one way to win this contest. The kids cannot flip their pancakes to save their lives. Since Pedro F'N Pony isn't around, this means Danny Dog gets to be the one made to be the GEEK OF THE WEEK~! His pancake crumbles to bits. Gearld somehow tops this by flipping the pancake right into Emily's face. Emily removes the pancake, eats it and likes it. Handled it better than Daddy Pig did with his pancake back in the day, that is for sure. Mandy and Peppa are doing well, but they are being too cautious here. However, both make one giant flip and Mandy Mouse manages to make it to the top of the measuring stick, while Peppa's goes about a couple of steps under. Mr. Bull gongs this contest, that was funny. Mandy Mouse wins and she gets a ribbon for real. Peppa is not thrilled, but recoils and praises Mandy for winning. Next contest: Making the best pancake batter. Of course, Peppa Pig makes a big mess because it's Peppa Pig. Speaking of SUZY SHEEP~, here she is doing it perfectly and Mummy Polar Bear gongs this contest. Also funny. Mummy Polar also speaks when she gives Suzy Sheep her ribbon, the same one that Mandy got. Next contest: Pancake Art, and this one is so close I would accept a perfect tie here. I know it's a artistic contest because Granny Sheep is the one who gongs this contest. I believe this is Granny Sheep's Peppa Pig Tales debut as well! Granny Sheep hesitates and then declares Candy Cat the winner. Ouch! The one time I would accept a draw here since both Candy and Peppa did a great job here. Next contest is pancake stacking, Gerald beats Peppa by two pancakes, Doctor Brown Bear gongs this one. Now Peppa is not thrilled about this, she is getting schooled and I think the spirit breaker was the art contest. Jump cut to Gigi Gazelle's mouth yelling with a bullhorn just to annoy me and is literally trying to kill Mr. Bull's eardrums. Gigi apologizes and then announces the pancake relay race as Doctor Elephant and Mummy Mouse join in.
The teams are: Daddy Pig/Peppa Pig, Doctor Elephant/Emily Elephant and Mummy Mouse/Mandy Mouse. Everyone goes to the starting line with Mummy Pig passing pancakes in frying pans, so she's out of the running. The other teams are Mummy Giraffe/Gearld Giraffe, Mummy Dog/Danny Dog and Mummy Sheep/Suzy Sheep. Sadly, no male/boy competitors for some reason. Did Pedro join the Sony Ponies brigade and thus is banned?! Daddy Pig tries to tell Peppa to be a good sport, but Peppa cuts him off because winning good, being a good sport bad. I get that Peppa is frustrated, but come on now! Thankfully, Daddy Pig is allowed to finish his promo because fun equals good and winning is just icing on top of the pancake, so to speak. Sadly, Gigi cuts him off before he can finish his promo, but 95% of the whole was made so it's fine. Daddy Pig turns around and it's ready, steady, go~! Daddy Pig takes the lead and Mummy Mouse is in second through most of it. Daddy Pig runs through the butter mud of doom, but Mummy Mouse is now stuck! HAHA! The writers are just burying her deep within the earth. She cannot do scary noises to save her life and now she cannot get out of simulated maple butter to save her life. Mandy Mouse is going to have a field day with her, and I mean that in the kindest way possible. Daddy makes it to the start/finish line and hands the frying pan to Peppa. Peppa starts talking, and then runs stage left to continue the race! AWESOME! A great pay off to Sports Day when Peppa was a chatterbox and screwed her chance of winning even though Daddy Pig was in the lead inspite of Peppa shaming him for being too big and slow?! Peppa is in first place, Mandy is in second. I just realize the climbing frame is using two giant rainbow colored mixing whisks. Peppa jumps up and down in the maple butter and gets to the other side while Mandy drives in and Mandy Mouse is now stuck! I laughed and laughed and laughed some more. I betcha Mummy Mouse was laughing all the way to the bank after that one. Peppa has this thing won, and then she stops. She ponders this over and decides to return and help Mandy out of the maple butter while the cheering goes on. Personally, I'm fine with this, it's not like this will not be rendered into everyone wins anyway, and Peppa's good sportswomanship is more important in developing her character. All the kids help Mandy out of the maple butter and race to the end as everyone won. The kids all cheer. Again, I prefer this kind of tie to the screwjobs Danny Dog gets since Danny won those contests fairly and got screwed out of them. The kids didn't care about the win, they wanted to have fun and Mandy was in distress so I like this draw finish. Peppa and Daddy Pig say it all as it's pancakes for everyone to eat. I do not think I could eat even one full plate in one sitting anymore. My body's wrecked. Anyhow, Granddad Dog shows up out of nowhere. Why wasn't he paired with Danny Dog so we would have one male/male pairing at least. Everyone eats pancakes as the narrator says it all to end the episode on the zoom out at 3:08. An outstanding episode with an awesome tie finish. **** 3/4 (95%).
Fixing The Party Bus: Short opens inside the Party Bus as there is a mermaid party going on with music and dancing. Mummy Pig, Peppa Pig, Suzy Sheep, Gerald Giraffe, Candy Cat, and Danny Dog are dressed like mermaids. The naughty crab returns as a cameo on the top seat of the bus. SUZY SHEEP~'s eyes go right through Gerald Giraffe's neck. Then the party literally dies as we have a power cut. Everyone groans as Miss Rabbit takes over and tries to start the bus, but it doesn't start. Therefore, we get to see Mr. Bull towing the party bus and Peppa says the title card on screen as the party bus arrives at Granddad Dog's garage. Granddad Dog checks the engine and it's dusty and foul. So much so that Granddad Dog coughs and says "cor blimey", which is a new one on me. It's British slang for surprise or annoyance. I thought it was "coal blimey" for a second there. The kids are in the play area of the garage wondering what the hell is going on here. The kids all gasp at the thought of Suzy Sheep's notion that the party bus is broken forever and thus cannot be fixed. Miss Rabbit proclaims that everything is fine, she would be perfect for that meme involving the dog in a burning house. The major difference being her doing all those jobs while the fire is her customers. Miss Rabbit looks at Mummy Pig when she says that Miss Rabbit learned that nothing is unrepairable when they got the Party Bus. Implying that it was joint bought by Miss Rabbit and Mummy Pig. Huge, if true. Then it's proven true as Peppa Pig hits the flashback at the recycling center as we are joined with George Pig, Daddy Pig as Mr. Bull tows in a broken down dirty bus. Which Mr. Bull proclaims is in fact a dead bus used for parties. Yes, the Party Bus is getting an origin story now! We exchange notes for a while as Mr. Bull's destruction fetish kicks in as he wants to put the thing in the crusher, but is cut off by Mummy Pig. Mummy Pig and Miss Rabbit agree to buy the Party Bus and we hit the narrative montage of Mummy Pig and Miss Rabbit doing a make over on the Party Bus as Mummy Pig has blueprints and overalls on along with Miss Rabbit. The blueprints were likely Daddy Pig's doing, but what do I know?! Peppa claims that she helped a tiny little bit as a blue bird pops from a bus seat. Daddy Pig brought the tea to Mummy Pig and then gets hosed by Mummy Pig, that was funny. Everyone helped, including George trying to paint the bus and failing. George was a bigger geek than Daddy Pig here. Granddad Dog and Mr. Bull helped as well as the disco ball is set up. Head outside as the Party Bus is complete as everyone goes inside to try out the slide and other stuff. Miss Rabbit has the keys and wants to start the party bus, but it wouldn't start. Miss Rabbit then comes out and gives up as everyone is sad. But, wait?! Granddad Dog and Mr. Bull fix the engine because of course. Why did they did a tow truck to put in the engine?! That was overthinking it a wee bit too much. Everyone goes back in and Miss Rabbit starts the party bus and drives away. We return to reality (no, not really) as the kids are feeling better about the situation. In comes Mr. Bull and Granddad Dog to inform everyone that the bus is fixed and Miss Rabbit gets her keys back. Everyone leaves except for the fixers and Peppa Pig, whom thank them for the service. Peppa asks if they want to join the mermaid party and Mr. Bull is actually crying because he is honored. I think this is the first adult in Peppa Pig Tales to cry, albeit it's happy crying like the wedding. Granddad Dog admits that they love mermaid parties and we jump cut to inside the party bus with everyone dancing like mermaids while the narrator says it all to end the episode at 3:13. Maybe they are running out of ideas when the party bus is already getting an origin story, but I love deep cuts like this, so *** 1/2 (70%).
THE REVIEW LINE
Well, we have a mixed bag of shorts here. Valentines Day was just an okay story with the usual LEGO Duplo bullshit that has plagued the concept. A lot of logic breaks in that one. Mummy Mischief Returns! ruled! This was a great way to get the kids to help tidy the house so much that I can forgive the writers for calling it a clean up. Mummy Mischief and Baddie Daddie need to be on the mainline series, I will not stand for this disrespect. Dress Up Day was a great debut for Alison Ray and George and Candy Cat were awesome in their roles, and incorporating the imagination world was fantastic. Pancake Festival was also awesome with the friendly feud of Daddy Pig versus Mummy Mouse and Peppa Vs Mandy Mouse. Peppa finally getting the fun of the festival was also well done and the draw finish was so great that I more than accepted it here since it helped with character development and didn't bury anyone. The only flaw was that Granddad Dog should have been Danny Dog's partner in the relay race since they had all the other combinations present. What happened to Pedro here, despite Doctor Pony's appearance?! Tunnel of Love is probably the last episode in the "Non-title card" era that was great as well as the appearance of the two mummies on a date and Peppa Pig trying to make sure no one kisses each other with Miss Rabbit trolling Daddy Pig made for a treat. Overall, a mixed bag of short, leaning towards great. Even Fondue! was almost great and a very good debut for Jeremy Krasue as well. I've honestly have mellowed out on the title card voice overs now. As long as it's mostly different characters, including the narrator saying it, it still has it's charm. However, that ending credits song has to go. It's awful! So...
Thumbs down for Valentines Day. Thumb up for Pancake Festival, Mummy Mischief Returns!, Dress Up Day and Tunnel of Love. Thumbs in the middle for the rest, and I'll see you all next time.
